In Ethiopia, Norwegian Church Aid has been working since 1974 in short-term emergency responses and long-term development programs. Our intervention in Ethiopia (2020-2024) focuses on five development programs: Climate Resilient WASH, GBV/SRH, Peace Building, Faith-Based Climate action, and Humanitarian Emergency. In order to save lives and protect vulnerable people during emergencies, we provide humanitarian assistance occurring in the country. Norwegian Church Aid is a member of the ACT Alliance. The ACT Alliance is a coalition of organizations working together in over 140 countries to create positive and sustainable change in people’s lives. Accordingly, NCA Ethiopia currently has a UN-OCHA funding project at Dawa Zone of Somali Regional State. For this, we would like to invite interested applicants and hire qualified candidates for the below positions. Job Summary: Reporting to the Chief Driller, the Assistant Driller will be responsible for the drilling of shallow wells and deep wells in the Dawa zone. The drilling of shallow well and deep wells includes the follow up of the drilling machine and compressor service, ensure the drilling machine and the drilling bit and other materials are in a position to complete the drilling of the intended wells and facilitate the procurement of materials, the mobilization of materials to the drilling sites, drilling of shallow wells in consultation with the geologist, installation of surface casing, installation of casings as per the advice of the geologist, installation of the hand pumps and facilitate the construction of headworks. Key Responsibilities: Support the coordination of mobilization of drilling machine including compressor, drilling bit, drilling cylinder and casings and other required materials for the drilling of shallow wells and deep wells; Initiate the procurement of materials and equipment for the drilling of shallow wells and deep wells, and the service of the drilling machine and compressor and ensure the quality of the service; Support the coordination of the community representatives or WASH Cos, government representatives and geologist for the drilling of shallow wells; Drilling of the shallow well to the target depth in consultation with the government geologist; Installation of surface casing, blind casing, and screen casings; Conduct the well pump test and Collect water quality samples in coordination with the woreda water offices or zonal water office staff and facile the water quality test; Installation of the hand pump and the construction of the shallow well; In the absence of the chief driller, provide an update about the drilling of shallow wells and a deep well to the supervisor; Support the facilitation of working with relevant partners government sector offices; Participate in other WASH activities as assigned by the supervisor; Support the preparation of well completion report; Establish a positive relationship with partners and other stakeholders through effective communication; Undertake any other duties as appropriate and within the post holders' capabilities. Reporting to: Chief Driller Length of Contract: 4 months Duty Station: Based in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to Dawa Zone Minimum required qualifications: Diploma or advanced diploma in General mechanic or Auto mechanic and other related fields; 3+ Professional experiences as Chief Driller in the drilling of shallow wells and deep well using different drilling machines and coordinate the drilling crew; Commitment to NCA’s mission- Improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity;
