Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the civil works Supervisor (Facilities Management Assistant), the incumbent is required to perform the following:
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the Manitou, including planning, maintenance, servicing, and transportation.
- Operate Manitou MT-X 1440 SLT and similar machinery safely and professionally.
- Maintain best practices while following manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Track scheduled service and maintenance of special equipment.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements during operation.
- Prepare the Manitou for operation, ensuring fuel and consumables are available.
- Adhere to road safety requirements when operating outside the UNECA compound.
- Drive light vehicles or trucks for transporting authorized personnel and goods.
- Perform day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checks and minor repairs.
- Log fuel consumption and maintenance activities.
- Follow rules and regulations in case of an accident.
- Demonstrate initiative and proactivity in addressing potential problems.
- Collaborate effectively as a team player.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Results Expected
- Ensure all operations are carried out safely and in accordance with UNECA health and safety standards.
- Maintain the Manitou-MT-X 1440 and its accessories to a high standard.
- Complete driving assignments safely and on time.
- Utilize discretion and initiative in planning and scheduling work.
Experience Required
- Proven knowledge and experience in operating telehandlers, preferably Manitou-MT-X 1440.
- Experience in handling various accessories of Manitou telehandlers.
- Safe driving record as a driver of light vehicles, including vans.
Special Skills Most Desired
- Updated knowledge of road transport requirements.
- Previous experience in a general construction environment.
- Communication skills in English (written and verbal).
- Strong commitment to Health and Safety.
- Ability to handle information and follow instructions.
- Calmness under pressure.
Nature of the Work
The work varies from steady work weeks to overtime, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, depending on contractual agreements.
Qualifications/Special Skills
High school completion is required. Manitou Machine Operation and light vehicle driving experience are essential.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.
