Job Summary:
The Junior Cost Accountant will support the finance team in managing and analyzing costs related to legal services, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and assisting in budgeting and forecasting activities. This role is ideal for someone with a foundational understanding of accounting principles and a keen interest in developing expertise in cost management within a legal environment. The Junior Cost Account will also support the finance team in preparing invoices to be sent to Clients, submitting invoices for payment, and following up on the settlement of each invoice.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly detailed cost sheets (reports) as per every client for the finance department and legal team, highlighting variances and trends.
1. Invoice preparation and following up the settlement of each invoice
- The Junior Cost Accountant is responsible for preparing all invoices to be sent to the Client
- He/she shall send each invoice for payment to the Client either physically or online
- He/she shall make sure that all the invoices are settled.
- He/she shall follow up on the payment of all pending invoices
- He/she shall be responsible for visiting clients’ offices to submit invoices and receive payments
2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts for the Office.
- Monitor actual costs against budgets and provide explanations for discrepancies.
3. Expense Tracking:
- Maintain accurate records of all case-related expenses (reimbursable) and ensure proper allocation to the correct matters.
- Reconcile expense reports and invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance with firm policies.
4. Financial Data Entry and Maintenance:
- Enter financial data into accounting systems and ensure the integrity of cost-related information.
- Assist in maintaining the general ledger and other financial records.
5. Collaboration with Legal Teams:
- Work closely with attorneys and legal staff to gather cost-related information and other information for the preparation of invoices and provide financial insights.
- Support the preparation of client billing by ensuring accurate cost allocation.
6. Compliance and Auditing:
- Assist in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and office policies.
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Fresh graduate with a CGPA of 3.0 and above.
Experience:
- Internship experience may be considered.
- Experience in a legal or professional services environment is a plus.
