Job Description
Organizational Context and ScopeThe United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) operates worldwide, providing resettlement opportunities to tens of thousands of refugees each year. IOM’s multi-disciplinary staff members offer a range of services and support to the USRAP, including:
- Case processing
- Migration health assessments
- Cultural orientation training
- Organized transportation
- Administration of a travel loan and collections program
The Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion, specifically the Resettlement and Movement Division (RMM), has the organizational responsibility to provide direction, oversight, and guidance to IOM’s global support for all resettlement programs.
Under the general supervision of the National Associate Operations Officer-Field Support, and direct supervision of the Senior Operations Assistant (Field Support) – Transit Center, the Operations Assistant - Team Leader is responsible for undertaking movement operations activities in the field, with the following duties and responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Undertake field activities in assigned areas, such as airports or transit centers, and monitor teams of Operations Clerks and Operations Assistants.
- Lead Field Support Teams in performing airport services, including verifying identities and assisting with airport formalities.
- Assist individuals at transit centers, ensuring their safety, security, and comfort.
- Coordinate timely services for meals and snacks, ensuring cultural appropriateness.
- Work with units on pre-departure formalities and maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
- Provide assistance at transit centers for extended periods, ensuring individuals' needs are met.
- Coordinate transportation from various facilities, ensuring identity verification and appropriate services.
- Provide support for selection missions and interpretation services.
- Give regular feedback to the Senior Operations Assistant and report any issues.
- Alert management of any non-compliance with SOPs or codes of conduct.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications
Education
- Completed secondary [high school] education required and five years of relevant working experience.
- Three years of working experience with a Bachelor’s degree.
Experience
Prior Movement Operations or transportation experience is a strong advantage.
Skills
- Strong computer skills - Word, Excel, and Internet.
- Required: For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
- Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
