Child Safeguarding:

Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is to provide essential support to Save the Children’s emergency programs in Somal, focusing on promoting accountability to beneficiaries to empower communities and obtain feedback on SC UK projects leading to improved quality and impact. The incumbent will work very closely with the MEAL Coordinator as well as all concerned project staff and project beneficiaries in establishing accountability mechanisms.

Reports to: Health Nutrition Coordinator

Dimensions: Save the Children works in - regions in Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately - staff and current expenditure of approximately $90+ million each year

  • Makes sure that the health staff have adequate training on the management of acute malnutrition per the National Nutrition Treatment Guideline, 2019.
  • Facilitates the training under the project.
  • Strengthen the Coordination at the order level.
  • Makes sure that the OTP/SC program is implemented according to the National protocol i.e. application of the admission and discharge criteria, closely monitors and strictly follows anthropometry measurement.
  • Ensures the availability of job aids, reporting formats, therapeutic products, and drugs for program implementation.
  • Supports and liaises with the health center's staff and provides on-the-job training and capacity building where required.
  • Creates and maintains relationship with local health and other authorities and link Cthe MAM program with the existing health structure smoothly,
  • Works and liaise with local health workers to integrate the CMAM program from the start,
  • Coordinates the link of acute malnutrition cases with CBN/CHD/TSFP/PSNP and facilitates regular registration of beneficiaries and submits every month.
  • Provides a daily/weekly/and monthly overview of drug items, and CMAM materials.
  • Makes sure that health professionals from the health facilities to participate on the daily routine work for sustainability and smooth phase-out strategy,
  • Provides technical support and training where required to all team members, and outreach team including health extension workers and community volunteers,
  • Organizes monthly report of SC/OTP/SFP/Community mobilization and reports on time to the Project Manager and nutrition and provides updates when needed.
  • Manages the stock levels of therapeutic products, drugs and all other materials and alert the logistics on time as more materials are required.
  • Coaches and supervises the IYCF-Officer, OTP, SC program officers and government staff.
  • Responsible for effective logistic management
  • Report any problems promptly to the project manager
  • Do any other tasks as given by line manager

To be successful, you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • BSc/College Diploma in Nursing and/or other health-related fields.
  • At least Four years of working experience in the field out of which two years NGO experience in a related field
  • Experienced in nutrition and health program implementation –data collection and compilation, working with counterparts for lasting intervention, training of health workers, etc.
  • Good written and spoken ability of the local language
  • Extremely flexible, able to work independently, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.
  • Interest in and ability to work in team. .
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work in remote and potentially insecure environments.

Desirable

  • Awareness of international accountability standards including HAP (Humanitarian Accountability Partnership) and a demonstrated commitment to promoting these standards in ways of working and project implementation.
  • Experience of working with an international NGO in Somali region.
  • Experience of social work in local communities.
  • Experience of effectively communicating findings to internal/external stakeholders.
  • Experience in child-friendly accountability systems.
  • Previous experience of working in an emergency context.
