SNV Ethiopia is recruiting an experienced, Program Communication Advisor for an anticipated flagship program. The program aims to secure 800,000 dignified and fulfilling job opportunities for rural young women. The program will embrace a market system approach in high-potential value chains, (horticulture, poultry, dairy, and complementary value chains), grounded in seven regional clusters. It will deliberately integrate Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) transformative approaches and safeguarding mechanisms across all program interventions, and facilitate young women's empowerment to secure jobs through initiatives that address market and socio-economic barriers and location-specific gendered root causes.
SNV will implement the program jointly with five other Ethiopian/ International NGOs, that will deliver their work in specific clusters. Together, these clusters will integrate technical expertise, and they will support the programme’s ecosystem to achieve longer-term systems change for young women and men employment in agri-business.
Summary of the Position
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about promoting youth employment, creating entrepreneurial opportunities for young women in the agricultural sector, and addressing systemic barriers to young women's empowerment. We are seeking a professional with considerable experience in program communication.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the communication advisor will be part of the program team and responsible for strategic and program communications, stakeholder engagement, and brand, and reputation management. You will be an advisor to the Programs Team and drive collaborations with consortium partners’ communications point persons to ensure alignment in all related communications.
The advisor is responsible for elaborating communication strategies, and plans and co-develop EIC (Educational Informational and Communication) materials as well as leading documentation of lessons, and case studies contributing to achieving and scaling up the program initiatives.
Job Description
- Develop and implement program communication strategy in line with the donor and SNV’s communication strategy
- Work with the consortium partners to develop and strengthen innovative communications models and channels
- Focus on impact storytelling to communicate the result of the program
- Contribute to reputation and brand positioning
- Improve the quality of communications through the development of new skills and tools and enable the adoption of innovative communication methods with the goal of improving execution.
- Prepares marketing communication materials, arranges booths and presentation slots for SNV participants, arranges site events and media presentations, in order to position the program at strategically selected high-level events, in line with the program strategy and plan and donor strategies
- Align with a culture of high performance, willingness to learn, perpetual curiosity, and results orientation.
- Build the capability of partner communication point persons to ensure alignment with the program communication approach and messaging.
- Writes and edits texts, selects photos, gathers and publishes regular contributions on the website and cross-promotes these.
- Provides communication support to staff and partners and guides them to operate in consistently with the program strategy.
- Develop and improve communication guidelines, training modules and templates. Monitors the use of the program branding and communication tools and provides support and guidance in effective application.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or related fields. Postgraduate diploma/degree and professional qualification are preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in marketing and communications
- Strong oral and excellent written professional communicative skills and proficient editor
- Networking skills, ability to build or expand networks with relevant people and organizations
- Creative with an eye for design
- Experience working with external service delivery agencies
- Demonstrated experience in brand positioning and management.
- Demonstrated extensive and professional use of social media (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, among others).
- Direct experience working with digital, print, radio, and television journalists.
- Demonstrated experience in high-level stakeholder engagement/management.
- Have a demonstrated ability to lead successful communications campaigns with a focus on development and human-interest stories using both mainstream and social media.
- A compelling storyteller with a demonstrated ability to frame compelling content for various audiences.
- Proven ability to edit materials and review/adapt them to fast-changing situations, exercising, and promoting creative thinking.
- A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal, analytical, presentation, and editorial digital skills.
- Outstanding social and intercultural skills and proven ability to multitask and work to deadlines, sometimes under pressure.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to execute a range of job duties and changing priorities.
- Possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents across cultures.
Additional Information
Contract Type: National - Full time
This position will be based on Donor Funding and approval confirmation.
Expected start date: February/March 2025
Duty Station: Addis Ababa - Ethiopia
Contract Duration: Two years with the possibility of extension based on performance.
