The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Officer III who will provide technical support to the Director General’s Representative in Ethiopia on national and international policy and stakeholder engagement efforts.
The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct literature reviews to identify evidence, enabling and influencing factors that contribute to the development of policy strategies, programs and processes
- Manage and engage in data analysis, interpreting and synthesizing complex research and present/visualize findings to best communicate the narratives that emerge and importance for policy developments.
- Engage with and perform high quality and timely reporting to relevant actors, partners and for ILRI and the broader CGIAR to provide a two-way flow of information between ILRI/CGIAR and national, regional and international partners and stakeholders
- Lead the planning, implementation and coordination of research operations across centres, and with funders and other partners.
- Monitor and keep up to date on relevant national, regional and global policy issues and debates and ensure people within ILRI are appropriately briefed
- Write reports and contribute to the development of research outputs such as research publications, briefs, policy briefs, conference/workshop presentations and contribute to other communication products
- Work with Communication, Advocacy, and Knowledge Management (CAKM) to synthesize emerging information for lesson learning across ILRI and the CGIAR and prepare related presentations and summary documents
- Lead establishment and maintaining relevant stakeholder relationships
- Participate and contribute to resource mobilization efforts/proposal development
- Contribute to journal publications and peer reviewed articles
- Develop the capacity of internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to the development of budgets and management of financial resources
- Perform any other related duties as may be required
Academic and professional qualifications:
Education:
- Masters degree in relevant discipline
- Broad / specialized knowledge of methods, techniques and processes
Experience:
- Six years of relevant work experience
Skills:
- Ability to work independently
- Experience engaging with stakeholders at various levels
- Data visualization skills
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Grade: HG 15
Minimum Base Salary: Birr 71,122 per month
Terms of appointment: This is a National Staff (NS) position, initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes a very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc. The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus in Addis Ababa.
