Background

In Ethiopia, iMMAP Inc. implements Information Management Support projects aimed at strengthening coordination mechanisms in information management by enhancing Clusters, Coordination Mechanisms, National/Regional Disaster Risk Management Bureaus, INGOs, and NNGOs in Ethiopia. iMMAP Inc.’s support promotes a shared and complete understanding of the Ethiopia humanitarian context through the provision of Information Management support and capacity building to humanitarian actors.

iMMAP Inc. provides direct and needs-based IM service to humanitarian responders in Ethiopia through a service desk approach named the Humanitarian Information Support Team (HIST). iMMAP Inc. also provides mentoring and coaching to humanitarian partners across Ethiopia through capacity-building workshops with humanitarian partners, both face-to-face as well as via online training.

For this assignment, the consultant will be asked to provide leadership to a nationwide baseline study for protecting the dignity and rights of women and girls in Ethiopia, in Addis Ababa, and eight other regions in Ethiopia.

Description of Duties

Overall, Purpose of the role:

The main objective of the survey will be to gather information and data to establish a baseline for planning, implementing, and evaluating future GBV-related projects on behalf of the client. The data gathered from the study will inform programmatic interventions addressing GBV/HP and SRHR in the project's target area. As women and girls continue to face protection risks, advocacy and communication for change should be implemented to guarantee their dignity and safety. Gender-based violence (GBV) remains a prevalent issue in Ethiopia. Protection challenges are particularly significant, with GBV posing a major obstacle to the health and full participation of women and girls in social and economic activities. The assignment is to lead a baseline survey on GBV, Harmful Practices (HP), and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

Survey Management

  • The Team Leader will be responsible for the overall coordination and quality control of the deliverables of the survey.
  • Leading both the methodology design, planning, and implementation of the survey, while being supported by a technical expert on GBV/SRH, a Data Analyst, and regional team leaders in the field who are managing the data collection process.
  • Coordinate the team activities to ensure an efficient workflow and achievement of the objectives of the assignment.

Communication and Reporting

  • Ensure timely, accurate reporting of activities to iMMAP Inc., donors, and implementation partners.
  • Timely submission of final baseline report, including survey tools and raw data.

Other relevant duties as assigned by the Country Representative.

Requirements

Education

  • Advanced Degree (Masters or PhD) in Behavioral, Social sciences, Psychology, Public health, or related disciplines

Experience

  • The Team Leader should have strong professional experience/expertise in leading baseline surveys and should have strong team-oriented organization, and,
  • Minimum of 10 years of practical work experience in the fields of Gender. SRHR
  • Knowledge of national policies and strategies on GBV/HP, SRHR, family planning, and HIV/AIDS.
  • Good analytical skills and report writing experiences with international and national organizations.
  • Knowledge of right-based approach to women, men, boys, and girls, most at risk in humanitarian and development settings
  • Experience working with Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) data and alternative data sources in the areas of GBV/HP, SRH, family planning and HIV/AIDS
  • Knowledge of context on most at-risk women girls and youth development
  • Experience in the humanitarian or development sector is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in data analysis software such as SPSS, R, and Stata.
  • Data Collection Platforms: Experience with data collection processes using platforms like XLSForm, Kobo Collect, ODK, or similar tools.
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English and fluency in at least two local languages
