A New Year, A New Mindset: Share the Work, Share the Knowledge

Work Together, Grow Together

As we approach the Ethiopian New Year, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect, not just on personal goals, but on how we function as a society.

In Ethiopia today, we’re witnessing a painful contradiction: thousands have jobs they don’t enjoy or excel at, while thousands more sit unemployed, full of potential but locked out of opportunity. The issue isn't always about skill. Often, it's about access,  to information, to networks, or to just one small opportunity that could open the door.

Reimagining Work

So what if we reimagined how work works?

Work Doesn’t Have to Be Owned, It Can Be Shared

We often think of jobs as something to "have" or "keep." But in reality, many tasks can be shared. If you're overwhelmed, pass something on. If you’re underemployed, take on small tasks others can’t manage.

Examples of shareable jobs include:

  • Transporting products
  • Data entry or encoding
  • Social media help
  • Typing handwritten documents
  • Running errands
  • Delivering small packages
  • Selling goods on commission
  • Home tutoring
  • Event assistance (photography, serving, setup)
  • Cleaning or organizing
  • Market research or surveys
  • Tailoring small orders
  • Helping with mobile phones, apps, or setup

These jobs don’t require degrees,  just trust, willingness, and access.

Teach While You Share: A Community of Learning

Even better: don't just share work , share what you know.

Most people don’t need years of training to get started. Sometimes all it takes is:

  • A quick tutorial on how to post on social media
  • Showing someone how to use Google Sheets
  • Teaching a neighbor how to package products
  • Sharing your method for managing tasks or customers
  • Guiding someone on writing a simple invoice or report

Knowledge should not be gatekept. If you’ve already figured something out, teach someone else. That’s how we grow — not alone, but together.

Why Occupy a Role That Isn’t Yours?

Are you sitting in a role that drains you? Do you feel stagnant or out of place?

If someone else could do your job better, with more passion, more hunger, and more impact — why not step aside or collaborate?

Let’s stop blocking opportunities we don’t even want. Let’s make room, share the table, and lift each other up.

We Are Connected: Yet Separated by the Information Gap

We carry smartphones. We follow the same trends. We see each other online. Yet we remain disconnected because of one major thing:

Access to opportunity is still unequal.

That’s where platforms like GeezJobs come in connecting people who need help with people who want to help. Whether it’s small tasks, short-term gigs, or teaching sessions — this is how we unlock the talent hiding in plain sight.

This New Year, Let’s Think Differently

This year, let’s commit to:

  • Sharing work instead of hoarding it
  • Teaching others instead of competing
  • Asking for help instead of struggling silently
  • Offering knowledge instead of guarding it

We are not small. We only seem small when we act alone. Together, we are powerful — a network, a system, a community.

Let’s build the future by helping each other move, learn, and grow.

Stay with us. We got you.

GeezJobs — Your work. Your way. Our community.
