Drivers - TRANSFORM Project

Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide critical support to the Transform Soil Fertility Management in Ethiopia (TRANSFORM Program) field operations by ensuring timely, efficient, and cost-effective transportation. The role is responsible for managing vehicle logistics to facilitate smooth implementation of program activities, optimizing transport resources while minimizing costs, and thereby contributing to the overall success of the Program objectives.

Responsibilities

• Transport staff to and from various locations as directed by the supervisor;
• Load, transport, and offload program commodities and supplies to designated locations as instructed;
• Deliver and collect mail as assigned;
• Ensure the safety of self, passengers, and vehicle at all times during transit;
• Operate program vehicle responsibly, strictly adhering to all applicable traffic laws and regulations;
• Communicate promptly any issues related to Program vehicles to facilitate timely staff logistics;
• Maintain accurate documentation of all vehicle movements and ensure all relevant documents including logbooks, road licenses, insurance, and parking permits are current and properly managed in accordance with vehicle usage policies;
• Monitor and maintain the mechanical condition of the vehicle by performing minor service at the office, adhering to parts servicing and replacement protocols, advising on necessary parts purchases or replacements, and operating vehicle safely and prudently;
• Keep the program vehicle clean and well-maintained.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Holder of a Certificate from an Ethiopian school at Grade 10;
• Holder of a valid Ethiopian professional driver’s license, category Public-1;
• Ability to drive long distances including on rough roads;
• At least 8 years of driving experience with national and international organizations;
• Knowledge of delivering mail and correspondence, as well as submitting and collecting documents from public and private institutions;
• Previous experience in preparing vehicle usage reports;
• Basic ability to communicate in English, at least at a functional level.

Reporting and Work Relationships

The Drivers will be supervised by and reports to Program Director, TRANSFORM.

Location

This position will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia or at a consortium partners office in zonal towns, with frequent travel to all program sites.

Benefits

Salary Clause

The salary grade for this position is BG 3 and the pegged salary is the local equivalent of USD 340.42 gross per month.

The determination of new employee salaries takes into account various factors. These include the salary range linked to the assigned job grade, the candidate's qualifications in relation to the job's responsibilities and prerequisites, internal fairness, the competitive state of the job market, as well as potential organizational and budgetary considerations.

About Program (TRANSFORM)

IFDC, along with its consortium partners Stichting Wageningen Research- Wageningen Environmental Research (SWR-WENR), World Soil Information (ISRIC), and national partners Environment and Coffee Forest Forum (ECFF) and SOS Sahel Ethiopia, is supporting the Government of Ethiopia through the TRANSFORM Project. The TRANSFORM Project aims to enhance soil health and fertility management in Ethiopia through four main components. First, it focuses on customizing extension services to tailor soil fertility initiatives to the specific needs of farmer households and communities. Second, the project seeks to develop a vibrant soil input sector by improving the availability of quality organic fertilizers for small-scale farmers. Third, it emphasizes strengthening the linkages between research and practical application through farmer-led action research. Finally, the project fosters an enabling environment for soil health by promoting collaboration among soil sector stakeholders, thereby enhancing soil fertility management at both national and regional levels.

The program targets the sustainable increase in productivity of 100,000 small-scale food producers and the improved use of 65,000 hectares of farmland in the Amhara, Oromia, and Central Ethiopia Regional States by 2028. TRANSFORM also models a process for replication and scaling of soil health and fertility management nationally, focusing on elements of extension, research, private input supply, and creating an enabling environment. The project intentionally targets at least 30% women and 30% youth participation in all activities by implementing focused outreach strategies and affirmative actions.
