Mining Supervisor Job Description
- Position/Job Title: Mining Supervisor
- Job Grade: C3

- Reports To: Mining Section Leader
- Job Brief: The Mining Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day mining activities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and productivity. This role involves leading and managing mining crews, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies.
Responsibilities
The Mining Supervisor has the following responsibilities and duties:
I. Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all mining operations comply with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments.
- Implement and enforce health and safety protocols.
- Lead safety meetings and training sessions.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, documenting findings.
II. Operational Oversight
- Lead and coordinate daily mining activities.
- Monitor production schedules for efficiency.
- Oversee equipment maintenance.
- Troubleshoot operational issues promptly.
- Develop operational strategies to enhance productivity.
III. Daily Operational Management
- Plan and schedule daily mining tasks.
- Supervise the operation of mining equipment.
- Coordinate with geology and survey teams.
- Ensure proper minerals beneficiation techniques.
- Oversee drilling and blasting operations.
- Monitor ventilation systems.
- Manage transportation and logistics of extracted materials.
- Collect data and analyze daily production reports.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Maintain hygiene and cleanliness in working areas.
- Conduct checks on underground structures.
- Manage daily maintenance and repair of infrastructure.
- Coordinate with maintenance for repairs.
- Supervise dust control measures.
- Maintain accurate records of operational activities.
IV. Team Management
- Lead and manage teams of miners.
- Conduct performance evaluations.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels.
- Foster a collaborative team environment.
V. Communication and Coordination
- Collaborate with other departments.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports.
- Communicate effectively with management.
- Coordinate with external contractors.
VI. Regulatory and Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local and national regulations.
- Implement environmental management practices.
- Maintain knowledge of industry regulations.
- Oversee waste disposal and environmental assessments.
VII. Budget and Resource Management
- Request necessary materials and equipment.
- Monitor operational costs.
- Manage resource allocation.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Oversee distribution of supplies and equipment.
VIII. Training and Development
- Develop training programs for employees.
- Stay current with industry trends.
IX. Quality Control and Assurance
- Monitor the quality of mining operations.
- Ensure mineral concentrations meet company standards.
- Implement quality control measures.
- Address quality issues promptly.
X. Technology and Innovation
- Stay abreast of technological advancements.
- Evaluate new technologies for efficiency and safety.
- Implement and manage new technologies or systems in the underground mining environment.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
I. Education
- Bachelor’s degree in mining from a recognized institution or any related degree, or an Advanced Diploma in Mining from a recognized institution or any related degree.
II. Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Underground Mining operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or team leadership role.
- Proven track record of managing mining teams and overseeing complex mining operations.
- Experience in underground drilling and blasting operations.
III. Skills
- Strong knowledge of underground mining techniques, equipment, and safety practices.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to use English as the language of business.
IV. Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in underground mining conditions, including lifting, climbing, and exposure to potentially hazardous environments.
V. Conditions of Work
- Work is conducted primarily underground in mining environments.
- Working in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and other environmental conditions typical of underground mining.
