About EHRCO Established in 1991, the Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRCO) is the first non-governmental human rights organization working on the promotion and protection of human rights in Ethiopia. EHRCO is free from the influence of political parties, religious institutions, tribal groups, and social classes. It stands for democracy, the rule of law and the respect of human rights. In accordance with “The Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No 1113/2019”, EHRCO was re-registered as an independent and non-profit human rights institution. Job Summary Under the supervision of the Head of the Regional Office, the Human Rights Junior Human Rights Officer is responsible for receiving, investigating and conciliating complaints received from the public throughout the Province, concerning allegations of violations of the Human Rights. He/she will provide legal aid services for clients by analyzing relevant laws that are in conformity with the day-to-day activities of the organization. The Human Rights Officer will be expected to portray professionalism and respect for diversity. Work Activities Collects and analyses human rights data and indicators in the working areas; Undertakes fact-finding field investigation missions and reporting Conducts substantive research and analysis of human rights issues/events and assesses their impact on the human rights situation in assigned region Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with government & non-government institutions, local community, human rights organizations, and other CSOs in the region to promote sustained and balanced support for the work in the field of human rights. providing advice on human rights law and policies across the Council’s projects and functions Writes a variety of reports, official correspondence, briefings on country/region-specific and thematic issues, statements, and communications advise clients on the law and legal matters relating to their case keep up to date with changes and developments in your area of the law Performs other related duties as required. Key Skills and interest passion for human rights, justice, and fairness strong spoken and written communication skills ability to absorb and analyze large amounts of information a high level of accuracy and attention to detail ability to explain legal matters clearly in non-legal language confidence and a persuasive manner ability to work under pressure time management and strong organizational skills. Work Experience Degree in law, Political science, or Journalism paired with 2 years related experience is required.
