Position Summary

The General Manager (GM) will be responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the company with a strong focus on business growth, supplier relationship management, pharmaceutical market dynamics, and internal leadership development.

The GM will work closely with the Board and executive team to lead Medtech Ethiopia through strategic execution, market expansion, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of the company’s strategic plans aligned with short and long-term goals.
  • Drive market penetration strategies to expand Medtech's reach across the Ethiopian pharmaceutical landscape.
  • Foster a high-performance, results-oriented company culture.

2. Business and Operations Management

  • Oversee end-to-end operations including sales, distribution, regulatory compliance, and finance.
  • Ensure optimal inventory and supply chain management practices.
  • Lead the implementation of technology and systems to improve efficiency and reporting.

3. Supplier & Stakeholder Management

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with international and local pharmaceutical suppliers.
  • Negotiate favorable agreements with manufacturers and logistics providers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure alignment with Medtech’s quality and service standards.

4. Sales & Market Development

  • Provide strategic direction to the sales team and lead key account engagements.
  • Analyze market trends, pricing, and customer behavior to identify growth opportunities.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through reliable product availability and professional service delivery.

5. Team Development & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a multidisciplinary management team across sales, operations, finance, HR, and regulatory functions.
  • Build a strong succession plan and performance management culture.
  • Champion staff development and engagement initiatives to boost morale and productivity.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive professional experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or healthcare sector.
  • At least 5 years in a senior management or executive leadership role.
  • Demonstrated sales leadership experience in the pharmaceutical distribution or manufacturing industry.
  • Proven track record in business strategy, P&L ownership, and organizational growth.
  • Strong knowledge of the Ethiopian pharmaceutical regulatory environment, distribution channels, and public/private procurement systems.
  • Outstanding relationship management and negotiation skills with international and local suppliers.
  • Solid understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Experience implementing systems (e.g., ERP) for operational optimization is a plus.
  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Pharmacy, Supply Chain, or related fields is preferred.
