Job Summary
The Junior Accountant is responsible for providing accounting and administrative support to ensure the effective, efficient, and accurate financial management of the organization. The role involves:
- Recording daily financial transactions
- Maintaining up-to-date ledgers
- Supporting the preparation of reports
- Ensuring compliance with organizational and donor requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Transaction Recording
- Record and post daily financial transactions into the accounting system in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain and update cash books, journals, and ledgers.
- Ensure all financial transactions are supported by proper documentation and approvals.
- Assist in preparing and processing payment vouchers, receipts, and journal entries.
- Cash and Bank Management
- Support daily cash management and assist with bank reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate recording of all bank transactions.
- Prepare and process petty cash payments in line with organizational policy.
- Assist in maintaining adequate cash flow to meet operational requirements.
- Financial Reporting Support
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Support the Senior Accountant in preparing schedules for audits and financial reviews.
- Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure all accounting records are properly filed and archived for audit and compliance purposes.
- Adhere to the organization’s financial policies, procedures, and donor regulations.
- Support the Finance team in ensuring timely and accurate statutory payments (taxes, pension, etc.).
- Administrative and Support Functions
- Provide administrative support to finance and program teams as required.
- Support internal control implementation by ensuring all transactions meet policy standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within an NGO or donor-funded project.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and standards (GAAP/IFRS).
- Familiarity with accounting software QuickBooks is an advantage.
