Job Summary: -

Support marketing and business planning and decision-making through identifying information needs; carrying out research where required, using qualitative and quantitative methodologies; and analyzing research results and data to provide actionable insights.

Lead cross-functional innovation project teams from brief to outline launch plan for both new product development (brands, product variants and pack formats) and old product development (such as reformulation of existing products and redesign of existing pack formats).

Functional Capabilities

  • Manage all continuous and ad hoc research studies, from brief to final report, on budget and on time, including managing research fieldwork personally or supervising fieldwork where this is carried out by other members of the Market Research team or by third-party research agencies.
  • Manage innovation projects from idea generation to launching processes and post-launching assessments.
  • Analyze data and information received from different sources to collate findings into actionable insights for marketing planning.
  • Provide results reports, executive summaries and presentations for the Marketing team, other DBSC functions, DBSC management and the Board
  • Assist the Marketing team in identifying information needs.

Top Accountabilities

  • Monitor attitudes, behaviors, trends and the market landscape. Recommend tracking processes with which to assess the impact of brand activities. Analyze data and information received and assist the Brands team with the production of regular brand health and competitor reports.
  • Develop and test Innovation concepts through the innovation funnel.
  • Manage & execute research stage gate process of concept development, liquid and package testing, and partner in launch plan.
  • Lead development and commercialization of new products from ideation to launch.
  • Lead the innovation team and closely work with cross functional teams to foster the process of innovation.
  • Provide rationales, volume estimates and outline financial analyses (together with the Finance Department) for concepts, to underpin opportunity identification and prioritization.
  • Identify the internal and external resources required for each project and lead cross-functional project teams, from project brief to outline launch plan.
  • Produce project timetables and project documentation as required. Act as the specialist point of contact for any research or research analysis required.
  • Assist the Marketing Manager Brands, with the production of a Brand Standards Manual/Brand Book for each new brand developed.
  • Act as the central point of contact for all research studies to be carried out by DBSC by co-coordinating all research requests and executing research studies.
  • Provide data and situation analyses as required to inform business issues which need to be addressed.
  • Maintain a database of research studies that can easily be referred to by the Marketing team and DBSC management.
  • Monitor and report on the approved research budget across the brands portfolio and budgets allocated to new and old product development. Assist the Marketing in preparing accruals and expenditure forecasts.
  • Maintain best practice in carrying out all research studies, to ensure that results are sufficiently robust for decision-making.
  • Lead the Market Research team in best practice processes and develop their capabilities through performance management, coaching and identification of training needs.
  • Provide coaching as necessary to members of the Marketing team and other DSBC departments on innovation project processes (such as Stage-Gate) and the selection and application of research tools and techniques.
  • Management of the research budget across the brands portfolio and of approved budgets for new and old product development projects.

About You

  • BA Degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Management or in business-related fields.
  • Minimum of 7 years of marketing experience preferably in the FMCG environment.

Key Competency & Behavioral Skill

  • Experience in the development and execution of marketing strategies.
  • Demonstrate a successful track record in terms of market share capture, market penetration, brand building, customer service and satisfaction, and volume growth.
  • Ideally able to demonstrate success in leading, building and developing a team
  • IT literacy and the ability to handle electronic data; (Advanced Word and excel skills)
  • Fluent in Amharic and a strong command of written and spoken English
