Qualification:

  • Optometrist is a graduate with a B.Sc. degree in Optometry from a recognized University/educational institution, which is licensed by the regulatory authority.

Major Position Goal:

The Optometrist is responsible for the management of Optometry services at Biruh Vision medical center. The Optometrist works under the Matron and will coordinate the out-patients of the medical center to facilitate efficient and effective Optometry services. They are also responsible for ensuring and maintaining the center’s reputation to fulfill the objectives of shareholders, staff, government, and customer expectations.

Job Responsibilities:

Professional ethics, patient care, and register information:

I. General for Clinical Service

  1. Maintain current professional registration, ensuring renewal before expiry and work within the scope of practice and conditions of registration.
  2. Adhere to uniform standards, including clean and complete attire and appropriate footwear.
  3. Keep personal appearance, including hair, nails, and hygiene, in accordance with professional standards.
  4. Address patient concerns with empathy, seeking to understand and respond to their needs.

II. Clinical Service Management

  1. Greet all patients warmly before starting any tests. Call patients with respectful titles like Ato/Wro/Dr/Kes/Emahoy.
  2. Measure VA, IOP, and take medical history of the patients after a brief explanation of the procedures.
  3. Document the information patients brought as referral or any medications used by the patient.
  4. Document medical history and information with strict confidentiality.
  5. Perform diagnostics like OCT, Topography, Visual field, and Fundus Photo as per the level of in-house training.
  6. Perform Refractions, Color vision, keratometry, and stereopsis tests.
  7. Perform Biometry when assigned and trained.
  8. Perform clinical examination of emergency patients during off working hours when assigned on duty. Consult appropriate ophthalmologist as necessary.
  9. Assist doctors during OPD treatment sessions. Fill in for nurses when there is a staff shortage.
  10. Assist and participate in the research work of the center.
  11. Assist in the compilation and reporting of the center's activities.
  12. Ensure payments are properly made before performing any tests.
  13. Enter patient information into the computer and provide referral/certificates/summaries as needed.
  14. Help patients sign consent after proper explanation for Avastin and FA.
  15. Answer questions patients ask regarding their conditions with the appropriate level of authority and expertise.
  16. Prepare the necessary equipment and electric setup before use and switch off properly after use.
  17. Prepare and arrange different formats for both OPD/IPD.
  18. Return materials to their proper places when daily work is finished.
  19. Prepare the necessary materials for the next day's work.
