Job Summary
The Beekeeping Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and harmonizing all beekeeping activities across the Company’s farms and affiliated out-grower schemes. The role focuses on operational coordination, implementation of beekeeping plans, staff training and supervision, production monitoring, quality assurance, and effective integration of beekeeping with crop production and community-based programs. The position serves as a key link between management, field teams, and external stakeholders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Planning, Coordination & Implementation
- Coordinate the implementation of company-wide beekeeping programs and annual work plans.
- Translate strategic beekeeping objectives into practical field-level activities.
- Coordinate apiary establishment, expansion, and rehabilitation activities across multiple sites.
- Ensure uniform application of approved beekeeping standards and SOPs.
Field Operations & Supervision
- Train, supervise, and support site-based beekeeping officers, technicians, and attendants.
- Coordinate hive management activities including colony inspection, feeding, splitting, swarm control, and seasonal management.
- Ensure proper siting, stocking density, and maintenance of apiaries.
Production Monitoring & Quality Assurance
- Monitor honey, beeswax, and other hive product production against set targets.
- Coordinate harvesting schedules to ensure optimal maturity and quality of hive products.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of hive products from field to processing centers.
- Support implementation of quality, food safety, and traceability requirements.
Bee Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Coordinate monitoring of bee health, pests, and diseases and report incidences promptly.
- Support implementation of integrated pest and disease management (IPDM) and biosecurity measures.
- Ensure occupational health and safety compliance in all apiary operations.
- Promote environmentally sustainable beekeeping practices and protection of pollinator habitats.
Pollination Services & Farm Integration
- Coordinate placement and movement of hives for pollination services in coffee, cocoa, and other crops.
- Work closely with crop production teams to align flowering calendars and hive deployment.
- Collect field data on pollination performance and crop response.
Training, Extension & Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate and support training of farm staff, beekeeping technicians, and out-growers.
- Assist in organizing field demonstrations, field days, and awareness programs.
- Serve as a liaison with government offices, NGOs, cooperatives, and development partners involved in apiculture.
Data Management & Reporting
- Compile and verify field data on hive numbers, colony status, production, and losses.
- Prepare periodic operational and progress reports for management.
- Maintain accurate records and databases for beekeeping activities.
Administrative & Support Functions
- Support budgeting, input planning, and logistics for beekeeping operations.
- Coordinate procurement requests for hives, equipment, protective gear, and inputs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualification
- BSc or MSc in Apiculture, Animal Science, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, or related fields.
- Minimum of 6 – 8 years of relevant experience in beekeeping or apiculture operations.
- At least 3 years of experience in coordination, supervision, or team leadership roles.
- Experience working with multi-site farms, plantations, or organized out-grower schemes is an advantage.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong practical knowledge of modern and traditional beekeeping systems.
- Proven coordination, supervision, and field organization skills.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and report field data accurately.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Training and extension capability.
- Ability to work independently under field conditions and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work in remote areas.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Achievement of production targets across sites.
- Compliance with beekeeping SOPs and quality standards.
- Colony survival and loss rates.
- Timeliness and accuracy of reports.
- Number of staff and out-growers effectively coordinated and supported.
