Job Summary:
The Business Analyst, Data Governance will be responsible for analyzing, improving, and supporting the business’s data processes to strengthen data quality, integrity, and trust across the organization.
They serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams to translate data-related needs into clear requirements that improve how data is created, managed, and used throughout its lifecycle.
Key Job Responsibilities:
(a) Data Process Analysis & Root-Cause Investigation
- Analyse end-to-end data processes to understand how data is created, transformed, and consumed.
- Conduct root-cause analysis of data quality issues and identify breakdown in process, ownership, or standards.
- Map current state workflows and document pain points, data dependencies, and business impacts.
(b) Designing and Recommending Data Process Improvements
- Collaborate with business partners, Data Governance, and IT to design improved workflows, data quality controls, and stewardship steps.
- Evaluate solution options (existing vs. new) and assess impact on upstream/downstream systems and teams.
- Support the development of business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria focused on data outcomes.
(c) Embedding Data Governance Practices in Business Processes
- Ensure that standards, definitions, data quality rules, and stewardship roles are integrated into business workflows.
- Support teams in applying enterprise Data Governance guidelines and procedures.
- Partner with Data Stewards and data owners to improve adherence and resolve recurring governance issues.
(d) Stakeholder Engagement, Communication & Change Support
- Facilitate workshops, working sessions, and discussions to clarify data requirements and reconcile conflicting needs.
- Clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and impacts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Assist in change management activities related to new data processes or governance practices.
(e) Documentation, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain documentation of data processes, decision logs, requirements, and governance artifacts.
- Track benefits, improvements, and recurring issues.
- Identify new opportunities to enhance data quality and streamline workflows.
Required Education, Professional Experience, Knowledge, and Skills for the Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Analysis, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
- Professional development in Information Management or CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) is an added advantage.
- Previous experience in analyzing business processes and system behaviors, with an understanding of how data flows through the organization.
- Hands-on experience conducting root cause analysis of data issues and identifying underlying process failures.
- Proven experience in applying Data Governance principles; data quality rules, metadata, stewardship, and standards to business workflows. Demonstrated ability to map and document business processes using workflow, data flow, or swimlane diagrams.
- Ability to gather, document, and translate business requirements into data-focused technical specifications. Strong analytical experience with the ability to identify patterns, inconsistencies, and process improvement opportunities.
- Ability and experience working with cross-functional stakeholders to align on data definitions, requirements, and process changes.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with facilitation, leading workshops, discovery sessions, or problem-solving discussions.
- Ability to integrate data standards or quality expectations into operational processes.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively with business partners, IT teams, and Data Stewards.
- Proven experience simplifying complex concepts for colleagues with mixed levels of data literacy. Demonstrated capability to work in environments with evolving data practices and contribute to continuous improvement.
