Job Summary
The Junior Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the organization by maintaining accurate accounting records, processing financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and statutory requirements. The role assists in financial reporting, reconciliations, tax compliance, payroll processing, and audit support.
Key Responsibilities
- Record daily financial transactions accurately in the accounting system.
- Prepare and process payment vouchers, receipts, invoices, journal entries, and petty cash transactions.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting financial documentation.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and resolve any outstanding discrepancies.
- Monitor and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Support the preparation and filing of tax returns in compliance with applicable tax regulations.
- Assist in payroll preparation and ensure timely salary processing.
- Monitor company expenses and verify supporting documents before payment processing.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and assist in asset verification exercises.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing required financial records and reports.
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, financial procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare financial schedules and reconciliations as requested by management.
- Perform other accounting and finance duties assigned by the Finance Manager or Senior Accountant.
Qualifications
- Must be willing to relocate to Butajira
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Accounting and Finance, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience in financial reporting, bank reconciliation, tax filing, payroll processing, and general ledger accounting is preferred.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Good understanding of taxation, payroll processing, and financial regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience using accounting software such as Peachtree, QuickBooks, ERP systems, or similar applications.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling financial information.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
