Job Summary
The Factory/Plant Manager oversees and manages the end-to-end assembly, production, and quality operations of electric 3-wheelers (E-Bajaj) and electric motorcycles. The role ensures efficient production planning, quality control, cost management, safety compliance, and performance optimization.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
A. Production & Assembly Management
- Plan and supervise daily assembly operations.
- Ensure production targets and quality standards are achieved.
- Optimize assembly line workflows and takt time.
- Ensure availability of components, motors, batteries, controllers, chassis, and kits.
- Resolve technical and mechanical issues.
- Monitor productivity KPIs: OEE, downtime, cycle time.
B. Quality Assurance & Technical Standards
- Implement quality procedures for EV components and finished units.
- Conduct inspections: wiring, torque, sub-assemblies, battery installation, testing.
- Ensure compliance with Ethiopian EV standards.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
C. Factory Operations Management
- Manage layout, equipment, tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Oversee preventive maintenance and calibration.
- Enforce 5S and lean manufacturing.
- Maintain accurate production and inventory records.
D. Workforce Management
- Supervise technicians, assemblers, engineers, and supervisors.
- Manage performance evaluations and skill development.
- Develop shift schedules and manpower plans.
- Maintain discipline and teamwork.
E. Supply Chain, Inventory, & Cost Control
- Coordinate with procurement and logistics on part availability.
- Reduce wastage, scrap, and rework.
- Evaluate suppliers and provide specification input.
- Monitor stock levels and buffers.
F. Safety, Compliance, & Environmental Management
- Enforce workplace safety and PPE compliance.
- Implement emergency and hazard reporting systems.
- Manage battery and electrical safety.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.
G. Reporting & Leadership Support
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reports.
- Present KPIs and improvement plans to DGM.
- Support strategic planning for scaling EV production.
- Support localization and CKD/SKD projects.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Competencies
- Understanding of EV assembly processes.
- Knowledge of motors, controllers, BMS, batteries, wiring diagnostics.
- Strong production planning and line balancing.
- Quality assurance and RCA tools (5 Why, PDCA).
- Lean manufacturing: 5S, Kaizen, Kanban.
- Equipment and machinery management.
- Strong MS Office and ERP skills.

Qualifications & Experience
- BSc Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of factory/production experience.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory/managerial role.
- Experience in EV or automotive assembly preferred.
- CKD/SKD assembly experience is an advantage.
