Purpose of Job
To provide technical leadership for the effective and efficient management of the integration and Trade division of the AU.
Main Functions
The main functions include:
- Supervises staff of the division regarding organization and performance evaluation.
- Leads the design of strategies and policies consistent with the Directorate's goals.
- Contributes to the development of the directorate's business continuity plan.
- Ensures appropriate risk management and mitigation strategies.
- Leads the design and planning of policy programs.
- Develops new and expands on existing activities.
- Ensures the division contributes to policy formulation.
- Prepares the annual action plan and corresponding resources.
- Engages stakeholders within Member States and RECs.
- Represents the organization at conferences and mobilizes funding.
- Contributes to the preparation of financial and budget execution reports.
Specific Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:
- Coordinates the implementation of the African integration agenda.
- Initiates and formulates policies and programs for African integration.
- Supervises the preparation of technical reports and research papers.
- Leads the formulation of key policies and programs.
- Identifies new and emerging international trade issues.
- Liaises with Research and Policy Division for meetings.
- Leads the preparation of AU Flagship publications.
- Supervises staff economists on technical reports.
- Supervises all economic studies on regional integration.
- Coordinates the preparation of speeches and regular briefs.
- Provides policy advice on sustainable economic transformation.
- Coordinates programs to accelerate integration with global value chains.
- Oversees the progress of implementation activities.
- Performs any other related assignments as assigned by the Director.
Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience
A Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, International Business, Public Administration, or a related field with twelve (12) years of relevant work experience.
Required Skills
