Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Technical Head / MCH Specialty Centre Manager, the Midwife Nurse is responsible for providing delivery and maternity care services. The role ensures safe and effective labor and delivery support, assists medical professionals during procedures, and guarantees that all necessary tools and instruments are available. The Midwife Nurse performs duties in accordance with standard medical practices and professional codes of conduct while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide services in the labor and maternity ward.
- Conduct labor follow-up and attend normal deliveries.
- Ensure all delivery instruments and equipment are readily available.
- Assist in normal and vacuum-assisted vaginal deliveries.
- Provide immediate newborn care.
- Offer postnatal follow-up and timely consultation when complications arise.
- Support postpartum mothers in initiating breastfeeding and provide guidance on danger signs, family planning, and HTC.
- Deliver counselling services to laboring and postpartum women.
- Assist doctors during surgical procedures as a theatre nurse.
- Prepare surgical instruments, sets, and medical supplies in line with standards.
- Assist intra-operatively (Scrub Nurse, Circulating Nurse, etc.).
- Coordinate with operating room staff as a runner/circulator.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and replenishment of surgical instruments and supplies.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and apply universal precautions.
- Participate in stock-taking and audits when required.
- Prepare and submit periodic reports.
- Report clinical incidents in a timely manner as per guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
Education:
- BSc or Diploma in Midwifery
Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of experience for Diploma holders
- Minimum 2 years of experience for BSc holders
Skills, Attitudes, and Attributes:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate and caring attitude
- Awareness of government, MSI, and MSIE regulations
- Ability to make logical and timely decisions
- Strong counselling skills
- Understanding of quality care concepts and practices
