In the framework of the SECOND LIFE project, the Project Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and implementation of project activities in Addis Abeba, ensuring alignment with the project design, workplan, and guidance provided by the Project Manager and the SWM Expert.
The position plays a central role in coordinating specialized project staff and ensuring that activities are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with donor and organizational requirements.
CIFA is an international NGO with over 40 years of experience in protecting vulnerable children and youth. Active in Ethiopia for more than 20 years, CIFA promotes access to quality education, gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and inclusive livelihoods. Through its integrated approach, CIFA has developed strong expertise in solid waste management and circular economy initiatives, linking environmental sustainability with socio-economic inclusion. CIFA currently operates in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa City Administration, Amhara (South Wollo), Harari, and Oromia Region.
The Second Life project aims to strengthen solid waste management (SWM), circular economy approaches, and socio-economic inclusion through coordinated technical, institutional, and community-based actions in Addis Abeba. The project is implemented through a multi-disciplinary team and in close coordination with the Addis Abeba City Administration, local authorities, and partners.
- To ensure effective coordination and implementation at city level, CIFA ETS intends to recruit a Project Coordinator, responsible for overseeing all project activities in Addis Abeba under the technical supervision of the SWM Expert.
- 12 months, renewable subject to performance and project needs, contract with a 60-day probation period and the possibility of extension
Scope of Work and Responsibilities
3.1 Project Coordination & Implementation
- Coordinate and supervise the implementation of all Second Life project activities in Addis Abeba.
- Ensure activities are implemented in line with the approved project proposal, logical framework, and work plan as defined by the Project Manager and SWM Expert.
- Translate strategic and technical guidance into concrete operational actions at field level.
- Monitor progress against timelines and flag risks or delays in a timely manner.
3.2 Team Coordination and Supervision
The Project Coordinator directly coordinates the following project profiles operating in Addis Abeba:
- Business Development Officer
- Job Counselor
- Tutor
- Socio-Economic Expert
- Psychologist
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and coordinating team activities and deliverables;
- Ensuring coherence and integration across technical components;
- Supporting problem-solving and operational decision-making;
- Facilitating regular internal coordination meetings.
3.3 Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with Addis Abeba City Administration, relevant departments, and local authorities.
- Support coordination with private sector actors, training institutions, NGOs, and community-based structures.
- Represent the project at local technical and coordination meetings when delegated.
3.4 Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation
- Contribute to narrative and periodic reporting by providing regular updates, field data, and activity documentation.
- Ensure proper documentation of activities (attendance sheets, photos, monitoring tools).
- Support data collection for monitoring indicators, baselines, and evaluations.
3.5 Administrative & Operational Support
- Support procurement planning and logistical arrangements in coordination with the administrative team.
- Ensure correct use and tracking of project resources at local level.
- Support compliance with donor rules (AICS) and internal organizational procedures.
3.6 Safety and Compliance
- Ensure activities are implemented in line with security procedures and duty of care standards.
- Promptly report any incidents or concerns to the SWM Expert and Project Manager
- The employee’s Gross Salary will be € 696.60 [Six Hundred ninety-six and sixty Euro Only] based on the salary scale of the Organization (Grade 5 -Step 1) and will be paid at the end of each month to the employee’s bank account.
This gross salary included monthly transport allowance and pension fund and 20% of hardship allowance as per the law of the Country and medical & life insurance as per the policy CIFA
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Environmental, or related), Environmental Studies, Economics, Social Sciences, Project Management, or other relevant academic fields.
Experience:
- At least 4–6 years of experience in project coordination or field-based project implementation, with a proven track record in team leadership and management.
Technical Expertise:
- Previous experience in Solid Waste Management (SWM), circular economy, livelihoods, or socio-economic inclusion projects is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Strong coordination, team leadership, and people management skills.
- Fluency in English and Amharic (both written and spoken);
- Advanced reporting, organizational, and planning capabilities.
