Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Protocol team, you will be responsible for a variety of routine protocol tasks, including:
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA): Coordinating with the MFA regarding arrival and departure matters for UK-based staff, managing clearance of personal effects and official shipments for the embassy, applying for diplomatic ID cards and driving licences, organising number plate allocation for both private and official vehicles, and obtaining authorisation for the sale of duty-free vehicles on the open market.
- Customs: Handling all necessary customs documentation for goods clearance and liaising with customs officials on related matters.
- Driving Licences and Vehicle Administration: Facilitating the processing of driving licences, vehicle registration, ownership transfers, and other vehicle-related issues.
- Immigration: Securing entry visas and managing all immigration matters, including processing residence and work permits for expatriate staff.
- Airport Operations: Arranging diplomatic airport passes, access to VIP lounges, tarmac access, and meeting or seeing off senior UK government officials.
- Freight Management: Preparing documentation for the clearance and export of air freight and heavy baggage for UK-based staff and other embassy consignments; working with clearing agents as needed and ensuring compliance with all relevant procedures and legislation; briefing incoming officers and ensuring all paperwork is completed prior to departure.
- Visa Processing: Managing visa applications for official travel for UK-based and CBS colleagues.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- College diploma or degree in a business-related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in facilitation, clearance, protocol, or similar roles
- Strong understanding of Ethiopian government offices and their procedures/policies
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Valid 3rd grade or equivalent driving licence
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including late nights, early mornings, weekends, and public holidays
- Fluency in both Amharic and English
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
