Location & Time Zone Preference:
While this role is remote, we prefer candidates located within ±3 to 4 hours of Ethiopia’s time zone (UTC+3) in countries where World Vision International (WVI) is registered to operate, to support optimal collaboration across teams. However, we welcome applications from qualified candidates in other locations as well.
Senior Advisor for Global Safeguarding
The Senior Advisor will lead and manage World Vision’s Global Safeguarding Prevention and Preparedness Team and oversee WV’s strategic approach to safeguarding prevention, preparedness, risk management, and capability building.
Strategy and Influence
- Refine and continuously improve WV’s strategic approach to safeguarding.
- Advance and monitor WV’s survivor-centred, trauma-informed approach.
- Harness analytics and global safeguarding trends to identify risks.
- Support the Senior Director – Safeguarding in strategic thinking and reports.
Technical Leadership and System Strengthening
- Provide technical leadership to mitigate safeguarding risks.
- Equip WV’s global safeguarding network with appropriate solutions.
- Advance safeguarding support and resources for local partners.
- Create or update safeguarding guidance and tools.
- Ensure annual Safeguarding Update Report process is completed.
- Collaborate with the Safeguarding Investigations Team for support.
- Support internal and external audit requests.
Partnership-wide Capacity Building
- Align global safeguarding capacity building with risk management efforts.
- Ensure every WV entity has a Safeguarding Focal Point or Lead.
- Facilitate learning opportunities and capability-building programs.
- Connect WV’s Global Safeguarding Network to external learning opportunities.
Team Leadership
Provide day-to-day leadership and management to WV’s Global Safeguarding Prevention and Preparedness Team.
External Engagement
Participate in safeguarding working groups of inter-agency alliances and prepare policy and training materials with external partners.
Required Professional Experience, Education, and Qualifications
- 7+ years working in an international NGO; 2 years in a field environment.
- 5 years' experience in safeguarding or related function.
- Master's degree a Legal, Human Resources, International Development, Social Work, or Child Rights-related field, or field/practical experience working with situations of policy formation, guidance and implementation.
- Proficient in coaching, influencing, and problem-solving.
- Expertise in child and adult safeguarding issues.
- Excellent analytical and collaboration skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to new priorities.
- Excellent English skills; French or Spanish is an asset.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
- Strong computer and knowledge management skills.
- Critical thinking skills to relate work to broader business contexts.
Travel and/or Work Environment
Remote work setting with the ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.
