Job description
The WASH Coordinator will lead the design, implementation, and coordination of WASH interventions under the ECHO-funded Area-Based Approach (ABA) programme in Wag Himra.
The role ensures delivery of high-quality, integrated WASH services addressing public health risks related to water, sanitation, and hygiene, while strengthening coordination and system functionality.
The position also supports joint analysis, coordinated prioritisation, and integrated service delivery across sectors in line with ABA principles.
Key Areas of Accountability
The role focuses on program design, implementation, coordination, and quality assurance.
- Lead WASH programme design aligned with needs assessments and ABA priorities
- Ensure interventions target critical gaps in water, sanitation, and hygiene services
- Integrate WASH with health, nutrition, education, and protection outcomes
- Oversee implementation of WASH activities including water system rehabilitation, sanitation improvements, and hygiene promotion
- Ensure timely and quality delivery of all WASH outputs
- Contribute to ABA coordination mechanisms at zonal and woreda level
- Support service mapping, gap analysis, and joint response planning
- Ensure WASH data supports joint decision-making platforms
- Ensure all WASH interventions meet Sphere and national standards
- Provide technical guidance on infrastructure design and hygiene promotion
- Conduct regular field monitoring and quality checks
- Coordinate with government WASH offices, clusters, and partners
- Support capacity building of local partners and stakeholders
- Ensure strong MEAL integration in WASH programming
- Monitor service functionality and access indicators
- Contribute to donor reporting and documentation
- Ensure WASH activities are safe, inclusive, and accessible
- Promote safeguarding and protection mainstreaming
- Work with government offices to assess WASH coverage and water quality monitoring
- Ensure clean drinking water at household level through coordinated efforts
Qualification
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 4 years of experience in humanitarian WASH programming
- Strong experience in emergency and early recovery contexts
- Experience with system rehabilitation such as water schemes and sanitation systems
- Familiarity with Area-Based Approach or integrated programming
- Strong coordination and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience in Sekota or similar contexts is an advantage
- Experience with ECHO-funded projects is an advantage
- Knowledge of GIS and service mapping is an advantage
