SOS Sahel Ethiopia jointly with Society for Education, Environment Development (SEED) obtained financial support from UN OCHA to implement a project entitled “Rebuilding Lives: Integrated Humanitarian Support for Returning IDPs in Horo Guduru Wollega zone, Abe Dongoro District”. The project objective is to strengthen the livelihoods, food security, and protection of returning internally displaced populations in Abe Dongoro district by delivering integrated, time-bound support—including agricultural inputs, animal health services, cash assistance, emergency shelter repair, GBV response, Mobile Health and Nutrition Team (MHNT), and WASH. The project will be in implementation from 01, December 2025 to 31, July 2026.”
SOS Sahel Ethiopia, as part of its program implementation is seeking to employ interested, qualified, & experienced individual for the job positions mentioned hereunder:
Job Purpose:
Under the supervisor of Project Team Leader, the WASH Officer ensures that water, sanitation, and hygiene project, programs, and awareness are implemented effectively, professionally, and in accordance with the culture and practices of the local population. The WASH Officer coordinates and supervises all the activities which require specific civil engineering knowledge (in particular water and sanitation engineering).
Major Responsibilities:
- Actively promote safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services.
- Ensure appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities,
- Establish community water-committees to ensure community participation,
- Participating in district and provincial level WASH meetings and other relevant humanitarian/recovery coordination meetings,
- Ensure quality and integrity of implementation, including adherence to technical guidelines, administrative systems, and established deadlines,
- proactively engage in increasing the usage of safe drinking water sources through supporting the construction and rehabilitation of water-schemes within communities,
- Assess needs for WASH interventions (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities) at community level including Public schools and Health facilities,
- Prepare or revise bill of quantities and construction plans related to the construction works and also participate in design of infrastructure and procurement processes,
- Supervise and monitor the execution of the WASH works directly and provide technical guidance and expertise to the Hygiene Promotion Team,
- Line Manage Hygiene and Sanitation Assistants to ensure participation of beneficiaries in designs, and maintenance of infrastructure is adhered to according to the humanitarian guidelines and standards,
- Prepare and submit reports to the line manager using the appropriate templates as per request and schedule,
- Network/partner with sector offices or bodies and other stakeholders to ensure quality and integrity of implementation, standards, regulations and procedures, including adherence to technical guidelines with regard to WaSH services,
- Conduct data collection, accurate record keeping and management of information to measure progress and impact of project in line with the guiding humanitarian standards and as required by the WASH Cluster,
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Remuneration: As per the organization salary scale and benefit packages.
Duty Base: Abe Dongor District of Horo Guduru Wollega Zone in Oromia Region
NB*: Knowledge of local languages – Afaan Oromo is required.
About You
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- BSc in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resource Management and related field of studies,
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience both in humanitarian and development project,
- Previous experience working in Mobile health and nutrition team response program is preferable,
