Summary:

The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Painter.

The work schedule for this position is:

    • Full Time (44 hours per week)

 

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end

Duties

The Painter provides journey-level painting, including all surface preparations for all surfaces that may need to receive paint.  The painter also may perform small drywall/gypsum board and masonry installation and repair, wood refinishing, minor re-glazing for windows, and other minor works as required. Working independently, prepare and paint or refinish all surfaces as required including selecting and mixing different types of colors in order to properly match color for all on and off compound residences and offices. Paint furniture - smooth painted, stain, varnishing cabinets and shelves; painting materials made of metal and wood; painting roads, traffic signs; painting long poles.

Qualifications and Evaluations

  • EXPERIENCE: At least one year of experience working with building, trade, construction, fire and safety codes and standards is required.

EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school and vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing journeyman painting skills is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: English Level 2 speaking/reading/writing. Amharic Level 3 speaking/reading/writing. (This may be tested)

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Must be able to use all tools and equipment of the painting trade. Must be able to work unsupervised and inspect subcontractor’s work for compliance. He/she must be able to lift 40 kilos, work off a ladder at heights over three meters. Must have good customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. 
  • Possess a minimum of a class II driving license. (This may be tested)
