Job Description

ORDAETHIOPIA is a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving livelihood and environmental security in the Amhara Region as well as in Ethiopia since 1984 G.C. It envisaged to bring the above changes in the community by working on environment and climate change, water and irrigation, agriculture, nutrition and disaster risk management, gender, disability inclusion and youth Employment and food commodity management and emergency response interventions. ORDA Ethiopia is a highly result-oriented organization with dedicated management and competent staff. ORDA Ethiopia would like to invite competent candidates who fulfill the requirements of the vacancy indicated below.

Program Overview

The Mass Youth Employment in Apiculture (MaYEA) program is a five-year youth employment creation program funded by the Master Card Foundation to be implemented in 9(nine) regions of Ethiopia. The program is divided into two sub-national hubs. ORDA Ethiopia, as a lead organization, will coordinate the implementation of the program in 61 woredas of the North and North West Ethiopia hub of the program including Amhara, Afar, Benishangul Gumuz and Tigray Regions. The program plans to help jobless youth to create jobs for themselves by participating mainly in the apiculture value chain and other complementary value chains. The main interventions of the program are:

  • Increasing national honey and bees wax production;
  • Improving honey quality to meet both national and international standards;
  • Promoting market-driven value addition and product diversification;
  • Enhancing the integration of apiculture with other complementary value chains; and
  • Improving the enabling environment for youth and apiculture sector development.

Position Summary:

Responsible for creating, managing, and communicating the MAYEA program thoughts, plans, outputs and results, and successes to the wider public, the donor, and other stakeholders through closely working with the team. Ensure effective communication, promotion, engagement, and involvement both within and outside of the organization to support the program goals and strengthen the communication skills and capacity of others.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with program team members to develop and implement an effective communication strategy to the program’s target audiences.
  • Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the program’s activities, approaches, and results.
  • Create engaging content across a range of communications platforms, including social media, email, newsletters, articles, graphics, and videos – ensuring an effective communication means to reach the intended audience, including hard-to-reach groups
  • Promote other alliances, events, and networks on behalf of the MAYEA program
  • Develop an annual plan for communications, based on seasonal and topic needs
  • Be responsible for the branding of the program- creating internal templates for team use and ensuring consistent and accurate branding.
  • Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a spokesperson for the program.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists
  • Maintain records of media coverage
  • Maintain a photo library for MAYEA program use, ensuring appropriate consent in compliance with the donor requirements, i.e. when photographing of individuals particularly target beneficiaries and related persons consent has to be signed.
  • Prepare case and success stories of the program and document them accordingly.
  • Ensure ORDA Ethiopia's Safeguarding policy is effectively implemented and report any form of abuse to the safeguarding officer
  • Search for networking opportunities and work together for advocacy and influencing.
  • Network with the national and sub-national hubs, apiary associations/cooperatives and implementing organizations of MasterCard Foundation for a better scale-up of the program.
  • The incumbent remains alert and responsive to any child and adults at risk safeguarding & safe programming policy of the organization so that acquire relevant knowledge and skills that will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, safeguarding standards and procedures of the organization.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications and requirements:

Education Background

  • A minimum Master’s Degree in Communications or journalism.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 8(eight) years and a minimum of four years of relevant experience.
  • Two years of experience in managerial positions.
  • Experience in an International NGO is preferable

Skills/Knowledge and Competencies

  • Proficiency in design and publishing software
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams in addition to core Microsoft packages
  • Excellent report writing in English and Amharic.
