Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for invoicing sales revenues, billing various grants, reconciling general ledger accounts and bank statements, preparing journal entries and financial statements, maintaining fixed asset systems, and assisting with annual budgeting. The role also includes compiling grant applications and expenditure reports, preparing statistical and financial reports for clients, creditors, and agencies, maintaining records, and assisting the CFO with confidential correspondence. The Accountant participates in a cross-functional team to analyze and review monthly financial statements, drafts explanations for statement variances, and records necessary work papers and journal entries to correct account balances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Data entry for sales, purchases, receipts, payments, and bank reconciliation.
  • Processing invoices, expense forms, and payment requests.
  • Handling petty cash, and preparing invoices, bills, and receipts.
  • Maintaining accounting records, copying, and filing documents.
  • Performing account analyses and reconciliations.
  • Reconciling the general operating account and payroll bank statements, and entering cash journals into the General Ledger.
  • Using statistical, economic, and financial principles to prepare reports.
  • Preparing various financial documents for regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinating customer invoices, grant billings, and reports; ensuring all are reconciled with the general ledger.
  • Monitoring and mailing periodic financial documents required by clients, creditors, grants, and government agencies.
  • Maintaining a records retention log to organize permanent records per retention policy.
  • Assisting with month-end closing, making corrections to journal entries, posting accrual entries, and preparing financial statements.
  • Assisting the CFO with confidential reports for business dealings and negotiations.
  • Performing payroll and related clerical duties with strict confidentiality.
  • Managing the fixed asset system, including journal entries, general ledger reconciliation, and preparing depreciation schedules for budgeting.

Job Requirements

  • Qualification: BA degree in Accounting from a recognized higher education institution and 4+ years of experience in the relevant sector.
  • Skills and Abilities: Good written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with customers and external contacts. Must be proactive, well-organized, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
