ROLE PURPOSE:
The Driver is accountable for ensuring safe and efficient vehicle driving in or out of the operational location of Bale FO and over the weekends, providing transport services from different SCI Bale FO program request centres to various destinations, driving through off roads and under all weather conditions, taking responsibilities for passengers and vehicular equipment. Prepares and submits monthly vehicle usage report to his immediate supervisor; keeps up-to-date data on fuel consumption and other incidental costs. Use a log sheet for the day-to-day movement and should be familiar with and adhere safety and security guidelines of Save the Children International.
The driver should be able to communicate in English to some extent when working with foreigners and guests.
The driver should also have mechanical, liaising/logistical and communication skills to support his/her team on the day-to-day activities, such as vehicle annual inspection and payment processing, serving as a liaison focal point with different agencies and offices.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Operate Truck:
- In a safe and efficient, manner to minimise the risk of loss or damage of SCI or third-party property. Always receive the vehicle with its accessories through hand-over documents and sign the same for receipt of the vehicle with its accessories
- Performs daily and weekly vehicle checks and maintains the cleanliness of trucks
- Make sure passengers’ goods and materials are properly loaded and unloaded.
- Uses the vehicle for Authorized purposes and ensures, also, that the assigned vehicle is not driven by another person unless authorized
- Adhere to SCI Driving policies & procedures
- Takes care of the maintenance of SCI vehicles and their accessories. Undertakes minor maintenance works
- Shows the maximum level of Preparedness /Readiness (Filling fuel, cleaning the vehicle & taking necessary action to ascertain the vehicle is always ready for driving.
- Arriving & departing on time at workplaces and willing to assist programs in the field
- Ensures maximum care and control of the vehicle, always drives as per SCI speed limit, and respects national legislation.
- Follow up on safety procedures and precautions before & while driving an SCI vehicle.
- Keeping the necessary documents in the vehicle.
- Keeping all equipment/tools in the vehicle and making sure it’s working
- Maintains records of logbook for all journeys undertaken, safety of passengers, fuel consumed, and other road costs and ensures the logbook is available for inspection at any time and does monthly reports to the pool coordinator
- Follow up and report pending inspections,insurance renewal, or any defects or problems.
- Maintaining all safety and security measures for the vehicle under his/her care.
- Ensuring that the vehicle assigned to him/her is clean, fuelled, lubricated, and regularly serviced as per schedule
- Keep all tools and reserve tyres with due care. Handles the vehicle and other related accessories and materials with due care
- Cleans all seat belts and the vehicle's inside compartments each day and always wears the same.
- The driver should inspect it daily, make minor repairs, change the tyre, etc…
- Have the SCI logo visibly displayed on the SCI vehicle, except where this would jeopardise staff safety or be inappropriate to specific local circumstances.
- Park all SCI vehicles in safe and secure areas during working and non-working hours. Park the vehicle in a safe place during the night.
- Report accidents as occurred immediately
- Adheres to the rules and regulations of Save the Children International.
- Liaise and do logistical work when his line manager requests
- Performs other related tasks as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of 10th grade or 12th grade and above with the current educational system
- Own at least a third-grade valid driving license or equivalent with a new driving license
- Trained in Safety and Security
- Training on 4WD and defensive driving training
- At least 3 years of work experience in International NGOs with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to work over weekends, holidays, and harsh climatic situations.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills is an asset.
- Experience in vehicle maintenance is an asset
- Experience in Liaising/logistical activities is an added asset
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in difficult environments
- Be able to communicate in English and understand English written texts
