Role Purpose
The Driver is accountable for ensuring safe and efficient vehicle driving in and out of the operational location of Bale FO. Responsibilities include providing transport services from various program request centers, driving through off roads under all weather conditions, and maintaining passenger and vehicular equipment safety. The driver prepares and submits monthly vehicle usage reports and keeps up-to-date data on fuel consumption and incidental costs, using a log sheet for daily movements while adhering to safety and security guidelines.
Key Areas of Accountability
Operate Truck
- Drive in a safe and efficient manner to minimize loss or damage to SCI or third-party property.
- Receive the vehicle with its accessories through hand-over documents.
- Perform daily and weekly vehicle checks and maintain the cleanliness of trucks.
- Ensure proper loading and unloading of passengers’ goods and materials.
- Use the vehicle for authorized purposes only and ensure it is not driven by unauthorized persons.
- Adhere to SCI driving policies and procedures.
- Manage maintenance of SCI vehicles and perform minor maintenance works.
- Maintain vehicle preparedness (fill fuel, clean the vehicle).
- Arrive and depart on time and assist programs in the field.
- Ensure maximum care and control of the vehicle while adhering to SCI speed limits.
- Follow safety procedures before and while driving.
- Keep necessary documents and equipment/tools in the vehicle in working order.
- Maintain logbook records for all journeys, ensuring availability for inspection.
- Report pending inspections, insurance renewals, or any defects.
- Ensure the vehicle is clean, fueled, and regularly serviced as per schedule.
- Display the SCI logo visibly on the vehicle where appropriate, ensuring staff safety.
- Park all SCI vehicles in safe areas during working and non-working hours.
- Report accidents immediately as they occur.
- Adhere to the rules and regulations of Save the Children International.
- Liaise and perform logistical work as requested by the line manager.
- Perform other related tasks as required.

Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of 10th or 12th grade and above per the current educational system.
- Valid third-grade driving license or equivalent with a new driving license.
- Trained in Safety and Security, including 4WD and defensive driving.
- At least 3 years of experience in International NGOs with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to work on weekends, holidays, and in harsh climatic conditions.
- Basic computer skills are an asset.
- Experience in vehicle maintenance and logistical activities is an added asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in difficult environments.
- Ability to communicate in English and understand English written texts.
- Commitment to SCI’s aims, values, and principles.
Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with local contexts, including cultures, norms, and languages, is an additional preference.
