Description
Under the supervision of the Country Manager, the Program Manager leads the design, planning, execution , monitoring and evaluation of all programs of Operation Smile Ethiopia office. The Program Manager is highly technical person with clinical expertise who provides technical and managerial guidance and support to the program coordinators at partner hospitals, closely works with the clinical volunteers at the hospitals to advance the cleft and general plastic surgical service in Ethiopia. The Program Manager is responsible for oversight of the surgical and non-surgical programmatic works, management of program team members, and partnership hospitals, deliverables of all surgical and non-surgical outputs, managing surgical related data and reporting under Operation Smile Ethiopia Office. The Position reports to the Country Manager.
Key functions
Program Planning
- Leading the design of long-term strategic plans and goals for Operation Smile Ethiopia.
- Serving as the point of contact and resource person for all surgical and non-surgical program-related areas.
- Identifying needs from partner hospitals by collaborating with clinical teams.
- Leading the development of short-term and annual planning processes.
- Working closely with the global program operation team to align plans.
- Collaborating with Finance and Operation Manager to prepare budgets for surgical programs.
Partnership
- Building relationships with partner hospitals and clinical teams.
- Representing Operation Smile Ethiopia in national technical working groups.
- Collaborating with regional and headquarters technical teams to align program objectives.
- Engaging with local associations to strengthen partnerships.
- Establishing relationships with national and international organizations.
Programmatic Delivery
- Leading the implementation of the annual plan for surgical and non-surgical programs.
- Ensuring logistics are in place for running programs at each hospital.
- Providing technical support to program coordinators and clinical volunteers.
Program Monitoring, Quality and Reporting
- Supervising partner hospitals and assisting program coordinators.
- Conducting regular meetings to monitor program activities.
- Ensuring patient data is collected and submitted regularly.
- Organizing field visits for National Medical Advisory Board members.
- Coordinating quarterly program reviews to assess implementation status.
- Preparing weekly updates and comprehensive reports for the Country Manager.
- Implementing Operation Smile’s Global standard of care.
- Arranging meetings with medical oversight teams to discuss quality issues.
- Facilitating the use of the four Pillars checklist at partner hospitals.
- Managing the performance of Program Coordinators.
- Executing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Degree in medicine (Medical Doctor) with a master's in public health (MPH).
- Experience of at least 3-5 years in similar areas, especially in the surgical sector.
- Knowledge and practical exposure to project/program management.
- Understanding of working in an international NGO environment is required.
- Ability to travel locally and internationally as required.
