The Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Assistant for our Sheraro, Tigray Office.
About the Job
The Protection Assistant will be responsible for:
- Implementing protection and EORE interventions in accordance with minimum standards and DRC Ethiopia's protection strategy.
- Identifying protection risks through ProMo tools and information dissemination activities.
- Delivering quality protection responses to communities with different protection risks.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities:
- Collecting protection risks and needs through protection monitoring assessment tools.
- Delivering explosive risk education to communities exposed to possible hazards.
- Leading targeting, beneficiary selection, and distribution of multi-purpose cash and dignity kits.
- Implementing HLP information dissemination and facilitating training for local actors.
- Ensuring timely and adequate referrals for individuals in need of protection services.
- Adhering to ethical data collection and data protection protocols.
- Carrying out activities according to the work plan and allocated budget.
- Following all protection guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Carrying out additional protection activities as assigned by the protection team leader.
Reporting and Administrative Responsibilities:
- Supporting regular updates on project implementation, including weekly reports.
- Preparing and submitting weekly progress reports on protection activities.
- Ensuring proper documentation and reporting of project activities.
Experience and Technical Competencies
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience in humanitarian protection or a relevant social service field.
- Experience in the Tigray region is strongly preferred.
- Proven record of community engagement and consultation.
- Technical understanding of core protection concepts and ethical data collection.
- Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Integrity and strong work ethic with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Full proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
Education
University degree in social work, social science, law, or other relevant fields from a recognized institution.
Language Requirements
Excellent skills in speaking, reading, and writing English and Tigrigna.
