Job Opportunity: Protection Officer - Monitoring

The Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly motivated Protection Officer - Monitoring for our operations in Hudet, Somali region.

About the Job

Under the supervision of the emergency protection team leader, the Protection Officer will implement protection monitoring activities delivered by DRC at the Hudet IDP site. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting focus group discussions (FGDs), key informant interviews, and observations.
  • Providing information about available services and following up on referrals.
  • Delivering individual protection assistance to persons with specific needs affected by the crisis.
  • Preparing a monthly protection analysis report for the Co-Protection Manager.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular FGDs, KIIs, and observations to identify key protection issues.
  • Produce at least one protection monitoring report and submit it to the Co-Protection Manager.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor day-to-day protection activities.
  • Offer referrals to vulnerable individuals and ensure follow-up.
  • Provide individualized protection assistance in line with DRC IPA guidelines.
  • Monitor the impact of referrals and IPA on beneficiaries.
  • Facilitate awareness-raising campaigns as per the team workplan.
  • Participate in protection needs and vulnerability assessments.
  • Work closely with other protection officers and assistants.
  • Monitor protection trends and recommend activities and responses.
  • Regularly monitor project protection activities and provide feedback.
  • Assist in developing assessments and project reports.
  • Ensure DRC’s accountability commitments are mainstreamed into all activities.
  • Support the Protection Manager in report development.
  • Ensure proper documentation of activities conducted.
  • Take on any other tasks required by the supervisor.

Experience and Technical Competencies

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in protection, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills in complex circumstances.
  • Experience in case management and referral activities is desirable.
  • Field experience in emergency contexts is highly desirable.
  • High level of personal initiative and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated people management and interpersonal skills.
  • Be a team player.
  • Cultural sensitivity and commitment to DRC values.
  • Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Good proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must.
  • A sensitive approach to external representation.

Education

  • High School Diploma; bachelor’s degree in social studies or relevant fields.

Language Proficiency

  • Good proficiency in written and spoken English, Amharic, and Somali.
