Job Summary
The Protection Specialist is responsible for implementing protection monitoring programs, analyzing protection risks, and producing reports and insights to improve humanitarian response. The role focuses on data collection, analysis, reporting, and coordination with stakeholders to strengthen protection systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design protection monitoring methodologies and tools aligned with DRC guidelines
- Develop and update data collection systems and sampling methodologies
- Lead training and capacity building for Community Based Protection Networks (CBPN) and staff
- Support development and maintenance of protection information management systems
- Ensure accurate and timely data collection, validation, and triangulation
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis and produce protection reports
- Carry out field visits to monitor data collection and provide technical support
- Continuously review and improve data collection tools and methodologies
- Monitor contextual developments and propose new research focus areas
- Support dissemination of findings to partners and donors
- Collaborate with other sectors to integrate reporting and data collection
- Contribute to proposal development, donor reports, and concept notes
- Maintain coordination with UN agencies, NGOs, government authorities, and stakeholders
- Perform additional duties assigned by management
Technical Supervision
- Provide technical guidance and ensure compliance with DRC protection standards
- Support staff capacity building and promote best practices
- Assess technical performance of field staff
- Address non-compliance issues and support corrective actions
- Participate in recruitment of senior technical staff
Partnership Responsibilities
- Participate in partner mapping and selection processes
- Engage in partner due diligence and project development
- Support partner capacity assessments and development plans
- Participate in monitoring visits and reporting
- Provide technical guidance to partners
- Review and approve partner narrative reports
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in protection, research, or protection monitoring and analysis
- Strong knowledge of protection monitoring methodologies and data collection systems
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and reporting
- Familiarity with international human rights, humanitarian law, and refugee law frameworks
- Experience producing reports under tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and coordination skills
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Education
- University degree in Social Work, Social Science, Law, or related field
Languages
- Fluent in English (spoken, written, reading)
- Fluent in Amharic
