About us

Sunvado Manufacturing PLC is a processing facility for premium organic avocado oil located in the heart of Ethiopia’s organic avocado-growing region, about 300 km south of Addis Ababa. The facility is owned by Tradin Organic, a company specializing in organic ingredients and raw materials for the food industry.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quality Manager with a proven track record in implementing FSSC 22000 and other food safety management systems. The ideal candidate must demonstrate practical experience in developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality records, and compliance documents required for FSSC certification. The role requires hands-on leadership in quality assurance, food safety, and regulatory compliance, ensuring the highest product standards in our avocado oil production process.

The candidate must be disciplined, possess strong communication skills, and be a responsible problem-solver who can proactively identify and implement solutions to quality and food safety challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the food safety and quality management system in compliance with FSSC 22000 and other relevant standards.
• Prepare and document all required SOPs and records necessary for food safety certification. (Applicants will be required to demonstrate this skill during the selection process).
• Establish, monitor, and maintain a robust quality control system to ensure compliance with internal and external food safety regulations.
• Lead the Food Safety Team and oversee internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement programs.
• Conduct statistical analyses of food safety and quality data to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with national regulatory bodies (EFDA) and international certification standards, including organic and social compliance audits.
• Work cross-functionally with other departments, including production and procurement, to ensure food safety and quality requirements are met at all stages of processing.
• Deliver training programs for employees to enhance food safety awareness and proper implementation of quality standards.
• Stay updated on food safety best practices, industry regulations, and emerging trends in quality management.

Qualifications and Skills

• BSc degree in Applied Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, or a related engineering field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in food processing, including at least 3 years as a Quality Manager.
• Proven hands-on experience in developing and implementing SOPs for FSSC 22000 certification.
• Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, HACCP, and quality control procedures.
• Experience in leading and preparing facilities for third-party audits (FSSC 22000, Organic, Social Compliance, EFDA).
• Excellent organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and statistical data analysis for quality assessment.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to train and coach employees at all levels.
• Certification in Food Safety Management Systems (FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, HACCP, etc.) is a strong advantage.

Important Note:

During the selection process, candidates will be required to demonstrate their ability to:

1. Develop an SOP for a key food safety or quality control process.

2. Outline the necessary records and documentation for FSSC 22000 certification.

3. Identify critical control points (CCPs) and develop a monitoring plan for avocado oil production.

Location of Job

Preferably based in Yirgalem or based in Hawassa with daily travel to the factory (45min drive).
