On behalf of our clients, the Recruitment Department at GeezJobs is looking for a qualified and experienced Senior Accountant to join a well-established import company. The role is responsible for managing the company’s accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with Ethiopian tax and customs regulations, and effective financial control of import-related transactions.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage accounting for import transactions, including Letters of Credit (LCs), customs duties, freight, insurance, and clearing costs
- Ensure compliance with Ethiopian tax laws, including VAT, withholding tax, and customs regulations
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger, bank accounts, and supplier/customer accounts
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes
- Coordinate with banks, customs offices, freight forwarders, and external auditors
- Prepare and submit statutory reports and tax filings on time
- Support budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning
- Provide financial analysis and reports to management for decision-making
- Ensure proper documentation and internal control systems are in place
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 4+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in import, trading, or distribution companies
- Strong knowledge of import documentation, LC accounting, and customs-related financial processes
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel
- Good understanding of Ethiopian tax, financial, and regulatory frameworks
