Job Summary
Working under the guidance of the Emergency Outreach Coordinator, the Social Worker is responsible for facilitating, managing, and coordinating daily activities within women and girls friendly spaces. The role focuses on providing psychosocial support, case management services for survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), community mobilization, and protection activities aimed at promoting the empowerment, health, and safety of women and girls. The position is also responsible for timely preparation and submission of monthly performance reports and maintaining accurate documentation of project activities.
Education
- University degree in Social Work, Sociology, Gender Studies, Psychology, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in social work, case management, psychosocial support, or working with women and girls in humanitarian or community-based settings.
- Experience supporting survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Safe Space Management & Facilitation
- Assist in identifying, establishing, and maintaining a secure, confidential, and welcoming space for women and girls.
- Facilitate structured recreational and supportive activities, including handicrafts, art therapy, and group discussions.
- Conduct awareness-raising sessions on health, hygiene, nutrition, livelihoods, and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH).
- Create a safe environment that encourages participation, support networks, and empowerment of women and girls.
Psychosocial Support & Case Management
- Provide psychological first aid and emotional support to survivors of violence and individuals experiencing distress.
- Assess immediate needs of women and girls and develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans.
- Provide case management services while ensuring confidentiality, dignity, and safety of survivors.
- Facilitate referrals to specialized services, including legal support, medical services, and specialized Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).
Community Outreach & Protection
- Organize community dialogues, awareness campaigns, and outreach activities on issues such as early marriage, GBV prevention, and women’s empowerment.
- Build and strengthen community protection groups to support vulnerable women and girls.
- Promote community engagement and awareness of available protection services.
Monitoring, Reporting & Administration
- Collect, compile, manage, and analyze service utilization data while following strict data protection and confidentiality procedures.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on activities, challenges, achievements, and outcomes to the supervisor or project manager.
- Maintain accurate case records and administrative documentation.
- Participate in GBV and Protection Cluster meetings and coordinate activities with humanitarian partners.
Working Conditions
- The position is typically based in refugee camps or nearby health centers in the Afar region where operations are implemented.
- The role requires flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing security conditions and community needs.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) guiding principles and survivor-centered approaches.
- Knowledge of case management procedures, psychosocial support approaches, and referral mechanisms.
- Ability to maintain confidential records and handle sensitive information ethically.
- Strong data collection, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of humanitarian protection standards is an advantage.
