Job Description:

The R2G Advocacy and Communication Specialist is responsible for providing sound technical support and guiding field staff, and local partners including consortium members on nutrition and WASH advocacy and communication in terms of the R2G project approach. She/he proactively supports the project implementation and M&E to ensure quality and gender-inclusive way during the R2G project implementation period. Provision of technical support for R2G project partners and WVE field staff for quality implementation of the WV social accountability model (i.e. Citizen Voice and Action, CVA); identifying nutrition and WASH advocacy topics, preparation of advocacy statements and communication and dissemination of advocacy issues using effective platforms including the R2G consortium partnership are also a major role of the position.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance in designing effective advocacy issues/topics within the framework of WV advocacy and communication policy, principles, and values;
  • Provide overall leadership and coordination in the designing, and preparation of nutrition and WASH advocacy statements during the R2G project implementation period.
  • Planning and implementation of CVA model activities and set high-quality performance targets ensuring adherence to the national policy, strategy, and technical advocacy standards, best practices and donor and internal guidelines; strategy and technical advocacy standards, best practices and donor and internal guidelines;
  • Taking leadership initiatives on the development of the national Nutrition advocacy strategy and the humanitarian Development Nexus (HDN) strategy and implementation guideline together with the R2G consortium partners, CCRDA, and SUN networks.
  • Coordinating and leading the R2G project during DIP preparation, implementation, and M&E ensuring quality and standards through an enhanced partnership with the R2G consortium steering committee;
  • Working in collaboration with ILaNS, WASH, and Protection TP teams to ensure the quality of the R2G project implementation;
  • Providing overall leadership and guidance in the design and undertaking of need and gap assessments, CSOs landscape analysis, and the Baseline, mid-review, and end line surveys;
  • Ensuring alignment of the CVA model and the implementation approach of the R2G project with applicable government and donor policies, strategies, and operating procedures;
  • Liaising and establishing contacts at the national level R2G consortium partnership, NGOs, donors, UN agencies, and other international partners and discussions at the national level concerning Nutrition and WASH advocacies in WVE operational areas;
  • Regularly participating in R2G consortium steering committee meetings and national and regional level SUN platforms (like ECSC-SUN) and other related coordination meetings to ensure effective information sharing and raising advocacy issues within WVE;
  • Networking with relevant government offices, FBO, and CBO in the project area to expedite project implementation and facilitate experience sharing within and outside the area
  • In collaboration with the R2G consortium manager and MEAL coordinator, create a discussion forum between consortium partners, regional/zonal/district level government representatives, and CSOs existing best nutrition and WASH practices and policies.
  • Participate in online and face-to-face research forums and create networking to disseminate WVE evidence.
  • Activity participates in planning designing and implementation of need and gap assessments, surveys, and operational research about the R2G project.
  • In collaboration with the R2G Consortium MEAL coordinator and other consortium partners, contribute to the writing of articles and or abstracts and or project concepts for advocacy and resource mobilization for R2G Ethiopia’s Project.

REQUIRED educational Back GROUND, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAININGS

  • BSc Degree in Public Health and Nutrition Studies, Development Management, Public Policies, and Communications, or related field of studies awarded from accredited colleges and or universities.
  • Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications: Nutrition advocacy and leadership, Knowledge management, and any Nutrition-related training.
  • Required Training: ToT or level-certified Training on Lobby and Advocacy, communication, Nutrition Leadership, Budget monitoring and expenditure for Nutrition and WASH programming, Training of practitioners (TOP) on Citizen Voice and action for Social Accountability, project planning, implementation, Monitoring & Evaluation) Project Management, WASH and Nutrition System Strengthening in Ethiopia.

PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE (Required)

  • More than 3 Years’ experience with MSc. /MPH on Nutrition and WASH Advocacy in INGOs/NGOs with a focus on Communicating advocacy messages and Knowledge management.
  • Practical experience in leading, coordinating, and Managing Nutrition and WASH Sensitive advocacy Projects/Programs in INGOs/NGOs for more than three years by effectively managing Policy and Budget Advocacy and communication roles.
  • Practical experience in Preparing and communicating Nutrition and WASH advocacy statements, Policy briefs, nutrition and WASH message developments, articles, and or abstracts and strategies.
  • More than 3 years of work experience in local and international NGO/INGO project execution about public health, nutrition, and WASH advocacy programs.
  • Practical experience in leading or Coordinating Advocacy oriented integrated Nutrition and WASH Projects in NGOs by using local-level advocacy Social Accountability and Budget Advocacy approaches

REQUIRED COMMITMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Language Skills: Excellent in English speaking, listening, and writing and local languages, fluency in one /more other Ethiopian local languages is mandatory
  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
  • Expected to demonstrate competencies like delivering results, building relations, being accountable, learning, and develop

Working Environment / Conditions

  • Work environment: HO Office-based 50%
  • Field Travel: up to 50% to Project Implementation Areas
  • On call: 25%
