Background: Nutrition 4 Education and Development (N4ED) is a grassroots-level Ethiopian Civil Society Organization dedicated to fostering a productive generation through investments in children’s nutrition, early childhood development, and women's empowerment. As part of our dedication to women's empowerment, N4ED plans to actively participate in the initiatives undertaken in Dire Dawa to combat Gender-Based Violence. We will contribute to the prevention and response efforts carried out by multiple regional stakeholders. In pursuit of this goal, N4ED is currently looking for a qualified mid-level GBV Officer to join our team.

Responsibilities: For the project entitled ‘Combating Gender-Based Violence in the Dire Dawa area’, the GBV Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Conduct gender-based violence awareness sessions for a diverse group of community members.
  • Conduct an assessment before and after the project implementation period to gather baseline and endline data.
  • Organize and conduct advocacy workshops, capacity-building trainings, and ToT sessions for stakeholders to a range of governmental and non-governmental organizations in Dire Dawa that are focused on addressing gender-based violence (GBV).
  • Support the implementation of the National Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Gender-Based Violence prevention, risk mitigation, and response, which were launched by the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MOWSA) at various service providers in Dire Dawa.
  • Coordinate with all stakeholders concerned by the GBV agenda and assist partners and stakeholders in conducting their activities to the project or the N4ED’s GBV agenda in general.
  • Moreover, per the progress of the project and the findings, the GBV officer may be assigned additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by his/her supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Public health, Medicine, Gender studies, Psychology or social work
  • At least 3-5 years of experience
  • A mixed profile of GBV with public health/medicine is highly preferred.
  • Experience in the prevention and response of GBV, including case management, counseling or related areas is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in conducting training
  • Previous experience in conducting assessments
  • Volunteering experience is a serious plus
  • Leadership qualities: Exhibit strong leadership qualities, allowing for effective coordination, communication, and decision-making. Able to engage and inspire others, a team worker, and passionate about other services.
  • Language proficiency: Be fluent in English and Amharic, with a preference for proficiency in a second Ethiopian language (either Oromifa or Somali), facilitating effective communication with diverse communities.

Duration: Two years with a possibility of extension
