Duties and Responsibilities
The ECA's mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa, informed by the 2030 SDGs and Agenda 2063. The mission is guided by ECA's five new strategic directions:
- Advancing ECA's position as a premier knowledge institution that brings global solutions to the continent's problems.
- Developing macroeconomic and structural policy options to accelerate economic diversification and job creation.
- Designing and implementing innovative financing models for infrastructure and social assets.
- Contributing solutions to regional and transboundary challenges, focusing on peace, security, and social inclusion.
- Advocating Africa's position at the global level and developing regional responses to global governance issues.
The Technology, Innovation, Connectivity, and Infrastructure Development Division (TICID) supports member States in achieving sustained economic growth through:
- Improving the business environment and increasing private sector investment.
- Promoting innovative financing models in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and services.
This internship is in the Connectivity and Infrastructure Development Section (CIDS) at the Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The internship duration is six months on a full-time basis, requiring interns to work five days per week (35 hours) under supervision.
Interns should have a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. An internship certificate is awarded on the recommendation of the supervisor.
The ECA is mandated to promote economic and social development, foster intraregional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa's development.
Under the guidance of the Chief of CIDS, interns will contribute to the Section's work. Typical tasks include:
- Assisting officers in conducting analytical research on transport development issues.
- Compiling, processing, and analyzing information and data on transport in Africa.
- Supporting officers in conducting programs and projects related to transport, energy, and economic development.
- Carrying out other tasks as required by the Section and the Division.
Qualifications/Special Skills
To qualify for the internship program, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, high school and must have a Diploma.
- (b) Be enrolled in, or in the final academic year of a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. program.
- (c) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program.
