SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Fractional Internal Auditor is responsible and accountable for the following core job elements:
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of bank statements and financial documents, verifying accuracy and reconciliation against monthly entries in QuickBooks.
- Assess the alignment of financial accounting and reporting procedures with the Kenyan NGO Coordination Board regulations, government statutory requirements, donor conditions, and the Finance Manual.
- Provide counsel and guidance to the Finance Manager on sound financial accounting and reporting practices to ensure strict compliance with applicable laws, donor requirements, and organizational policies.
- Promptly detect and report any accounting errors or discrepancies, offering professional recommendations for corrective measures.
- Perform detailed bi-annual audits with a focus on internal financial controls, data integrity, and adherence to relevant policies.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive audit reports to the Finance Manager and Executive Director, highlighting findings, risks, and recommendations.
- Monitor and support the implementation of audit recommendations to ensure timely and effective resolution of issues.
- Maintain high levels of confidentiality and ethical standards throughout all audit engagements.
EDUCATIONAL AND COLLATERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- An undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field from an accredited University. Professional auditing or accounting certification (CPA, CA, CIA) is strongly preferred.
- At least eight (8) years’ experience in internal auditing or financial oversight within the non-profit or development sector.
- Deep familiarity with Kenyan NGO regulatory frameworks, donor compliance requirements, and best practices in financial management.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and NGO-specific accounting systems.
- Ability to articulate complex financial matters clearly and professionally to senior leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain independence, objectivity, and integrity.
- A mature individual with outstanding analytical skills and exceptional communication and presentation talents.
