FHI 360 serves more than 70 countries, all 50 U.S. states, and all U.S. territories. The Crisis Response team has been responding to the humanitarian emergency in Tigray, Amhara, Afar, and Somali Regions through an integrated Health, Nutrition, WASH, and Protection project to meet the critical needs of the conflict-affected population.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the health and nutrition Officer, the Health and Nutrition Assistant is responsible for:

  • Supporting all start-up nutrition activities in FHI 360 program implementation areas.
  • Providing technical guidance to ensure program implementation adheres to appropriate international technical standards.
  • Conducting anthropometric assessments and linking clients to respective service points.
  • Maintaining an environment-friendly working space and adhering to infection control practices.
  • Providing nutrition services including counseling and preparing treatment for clients.

Accountabilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the health and nutrition Officer to achieve program objectives.
  • Collecting and coordinating data needed by nutrition staff.
  • Participating in research activities.
  • Supporting the admissions of severe malnutrition cases.
  • Preparing and feeding severely malnourished patients under observation.
  • Counseling in-patients and guardians on proper care and nutrition.
  • Conducting home visits for discharged patients.
  • Supporting the EPI department with routine growth monitoring activities.
  • Ensuring food supplements are safe and the store is clean.
  • Maintaining a clean kitchen for therapeutic milk preparation.
  • Preparing and submitting nutrition reports as guided.
  • Reviewing and verifying information for compliance and accuracy.
  • Maintaining records and data utilizing automated systems.
  • Imparting knowledge and skills to staff.
  • Preparing training materials for field site locations.
  • Providing continuous field-based assistance to mobile medical units.
  • Collecting and compiling project data regularly.
  • Providing regular updates on inventory of medical items.
  • Helping improve the quality of PHC services.
  • Performing any other tasks assigned.

Programmatic Administration

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting travel activities for staff and consultants.
  • Assisting in the collection of information for reports.
  • Maintaining distribution lists for project reports.
  • Sending reminders to keep the team on track with deadlines.
  • Serving as a backup to others at the same level.
  • Setting up document management sites.
  • Maintaining, copying, and coordinating storage of files.

Technical Requirements

  • Technical data collection, review, and basic analysis.
  • Development and dissemination of tools and materials.
  • Conducting searches of published literature and mobile software sites.
  • Providing technical administrative support for work plan preparation.

Operational Support

  • Post job descriptions.
  • Arrange interviews.
  • Set up technology for meetings.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Keep and update the list of contacts.

  • Microsoft applications (e.g., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams)

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree related to health or nutrition.
  • Typically requires at least 3 years of relevant administrative experience.
  • Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is preferred.
  • Prior experience using Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
