The Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Intern plays a crucial role in the DRC Ethiopia Shire office Programme team by providing assisting in tasks relating to DRC Ethiopia’s Shire office programme monitoring activities and ensuring accountability to affected populations. The intern will contribute to the success of DRC’s mission by supporting high-quality programme development and monitoring. The intern will receive mentorship from the MEAL Specialist, with regular check-ins to support their professional growth and understanding of the humanitarian sector.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Needs Assessment, Reporting & Data Visualisation
- Participate in the design and implementation of needs assessments
- Contribute to the preparation of assessment reports through closely working with the MEAL team to synthesize findings from the need assessments.
- Supporting on data visualization and reporting.
- Engage in thorough reviews of existing literature and secondary data analysis related to program areas, best practices, and relevant case studies to support research works.
- Support the documentation and tracking of feedback and complaints, and help analyse feedback trends in collaboration with Program team to review and analyse the collected feedback data, looking for patterns and recurring themes.
Programmatic Learning & Development
- Engage actively in regular team meetings and collaborative sessions where the MEAL team discusses ongoing projects, challenges, and successes.
- Work alongside team members to capture key takeaways from projects and evaluations and assist documentation of lesson learned and best practices.
- Participate in after-action reviews and project closure meetings to systematically evaluating project outcomes against objectives, discussing what worked well, and documenting action points.
- Support in the collection and analysis of case studies and success stories to highlight impactful program outcomes.
Learning and Development Opportunities

About you:
Experience and technical competencies:
- Ability to convey information clearly and manage tasks effectively.
- Knowledgeable of data analysis tools and principles.
- Ability to organize and track data or documents efficiently, possibly using software tools or databases.
- Good general computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
- Skills with prompting AI or chatbots like ChatGPT and using search engines.
- Especially for tasks like proposal editing and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to working within a multicultural environment.
- Ability to adjust to dynamic project needs in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION: (include certificates, licenses, etc.)
- Is enrolled at a university for a relevant education, with a minimum of two years of higher education completed, or have graduated from a university maximum 2 years ago.
LANGUAGE: (indicate fluency level)
- Good proficiency in written and spoken English, Amharic and Tigrinya
