Job Summary
The Pharmaceutical Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and ensuring the timely availability of pharmaceuticals and related medical supplies. The role involves coordinating with suppliers, monitoring inventory levels, maintaining procurement records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting uninterrupted healthcare operations through efficient procurement practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure pharmaceutical products, medical supplies, and related items in accordance with organizational procurement policies.
- Prepare purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and procurement documentation accurately.
- Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with approved pharmaceutical suppliers and distributors.
- Compare quotations, negotiate prices where applicable, and ensure cost-effective purchasing.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with pharmacy and store departments to prevent stock shortages or overstocking.
- Follow up on purchase orders to ensure timely delivery of medicines and supplies.
- Verify that delivered products meet quality standards, specifications, and expiration date requirements.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier information, and purchase history.
- Coordinate with finance, warehouse, and pharmacy departments regarding procurement activities and payments.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with pharmaceutical regulations, procurement policies, and organizational procedures.
- Monitor market trends, product availability, and pricing to support purchasing decisions.
- Prepare procurement reports and provide updates on purchasing activities.
- Assist during inventory audits and stock verification exercises.
- Perform other procurement-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical procurement, preferably in a hospital or healthcare institution.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical procurement procedures and supply chain management.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical products, medicines, and medical supplies.
- Knowledge of inventory management and stock control principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience using procurement, inventory, or ERP systems is an advantage.
- Knowledge of procurement documentation and record management.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical regulatory requirements and quality standards.
