FHI 360 serves more than 70 countries, all 50 U.S. states, and all U.S. territories. The Crisis Response team has been responding to the humanitarian emergency in Tigray, Amhara, Afar, and Somali Regions through an integrated Health, Nutrition, WASH, and Protection project to meet the critical needs of the conflict-affected population. FHI 360 aims to expand its reach to the Oromia Region in Negele East Borena, Ethiopia, to provide humanitarian response to the affected population and will be implementing the program with the Ethiopia-based national organization, Pastoralist Concern (PC).
Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Protection Coordinator, the role will lead day-to-day activities, working across various departments and collaborating with other Sector Specialists to oversee GBV activities under the ISH-E III project in Somali (Liben and Afder) and Oromia region, Negele Borena. The position reports to the Protection Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
The primary functions of the Protection Team Leader include:
- Overseeing the implementation of quality GBV prevention and response activities.
- Building capacity within the team.
- Contributing to ongoing assessments and analyses to better understand protection risks.
- Mapping points of service for survivors of GBV and vulnerable individuals.
- Identifying support structures and analyzing trends of GBV.
- Contributing to program design and preparing concept notes and proposals.
Program Implementation and Capacity Development
- Strengthening case management and referral systems.
- Developing appropriate prevention and awareness-raising strategies.
- Supporting Protection staff to become leaders in GBV prevention and response.
- Organizing and supporting trainings for healthcare providers.
- Compiling monthly and quarterly reports with accurate data.
Coordination
- Coordinating with local and international NGOs, UN agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Participating in protection/GBV working groups and contributing to inter-agency initiatives.
- Promoting FHI 360 as a leader agency in Protection.
- Contributing to the positive image and overall credibility of the organization.
Human Resources Management
- Assisting in the selection, training, and support of qualified program staff.
- Coordinating workflow and setting individual priorities.
- Accomplishing results through lower-level staff managers.
- Serving as a mentor to less experienced technical staff.
- Developing support strategies for staff and introducing principles of self-care.
Financial Management
- Developing work, spending, and procurement plans in line with FHI 360 financial pipelines.
- Working with Finance and Logistics to procure supplies within program budgets.
- Ensuring compliance with donor financial regulations.
Applied Knowledge and Skills
- Ensuring appropriate and timely technical support for field projects.
- Conducting routine coordination with employees and consultants.
- Demonstrating strong knowledge and skills in a specific technical area/function.
- Managing projects, setting realistic priorities, and planning for successful implementation.
- Ensuring compliance with security protocols and policies.
Educational Requirement
BA Degree or its International Equivalent in Gender, Psychology, Law, Social Work, Public Health, Social Science, or any other degree related to the area of focus. A Master's in a related field is a plus.
Experience
- 6+ years of relevant experience in implementing or leading GBV and/or Gender-focused projects in emergencies.
- Practical experience as a team leader is an advantage.
- Experience working with internally displaced people and conflict-affected communities in Ethiopia.
- Previous experience working in NGO and INGO is mandatory.
- Supervisory skills and language proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications and standard office equipment.
- Knowledge of local languages of the respective regions.
Travel
50% travel to the field intervention areas in Somali and Oromia regions.
