The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of Currently the Society has 14 regional branches, 40 zonal branches, 180 woreda branches, and 5,871 Kebele Red Cross Committees.
ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.

Job Title: Senior Officer, Business Development and Marketing Services
Work Unit: ERCS, Freight Transport Services IGA unit
Reports to: Manager, Freight Transport Services IGA units
Terms of employment: Contract for one year
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the manager for the ERCS- freight transport services IGA unit, the senior officer for business development and marketing services is responsible for preparing the ERCS-freight transport services policy, strategy, and operation guidelines including service pricing manual and SoPs, and required formats and implementation of the same. He/She will be responsible for designing and implementing the business unit expansion and marketing strategies that ensure expanding the target market, market share and optimizing the transport service operations.
The business development and marking senior officer is also responsible for developing and track key performance indicators (KPls) for unit efforts, ensuring measurable impacts; Conducts periodic market assessment survey for revising the price structure of the transport services; Initiates and undertakes business development feasibility studies, and market expansion service that is aligned with objective of the transport IGA unit and Proposes business development ideas that ensure the sustainability and growth of the freight transport service of the IGA unit.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares business development policy, strategy, procedures, guidelines and required formats that ensure steady growth and expansion of business of the IGA unit and ensures enforcement of the same upon approval;
- Prepare annual operational plan of the unit, maintain performance records of services of transport operation and prepare and submits regular and extraordinary periodic reports;
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPls) for unit efforts, ensuring measurable impacts.
- Design and implement strategies for expanding the target market, the market share and optimizing the transport service operations.
- Conducts periodic market assessment survey and assessment for revising the price structure of the transport services IGA unit.
- Initiates and undertakes business development feasibility studies, and market expansion service that is aligned with objective of the transport IGA unit.
- Proposes business development ideas that ensure the sustainability and growth of the freight transport service IGA unit.
- Design and implement customers’ attraction and retention strategies;
- design and implement appropriate promotional mixes to promote the services of the unit;
- Prepare and implement promotional tools like broachers, flyers, banners to promote the services of the unit;
- Develop competitive pricing and or cost plus pricing structures and service packages aligned with market standards.
- Search for bids, prepare and submit competent technical and financial proposals, conduct follow up the same;
- Conduct due diligence analysis for potential partnership deals;
- Prepare MoU and related documents for expansion of the services of the unit
- Establish, expand and nurture partnerships with target partners, humanitarian organization, and government agencies.
- Prepares & submit periodic reports of the unit to the Manager
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities of the job as assigned by the freight transport unit Manager.
Qualification Requirements:
- Second/First degree in Business management, management, business administration, marketing management, economics, Cooperative management and related field of study.
- 6/8 years of relevant work experience and 3/4 years’ senior position.
