Responsibilities

  • Maintain tax proclamations, regulations, directives, and circulars applicable to the Company in soft copy.
  • Liaise with the appropriate tax authorities for any new updates on the tax laws.
  • Steer, advise, and support the OpCo tax agenda within the assigned work field or area of expertise, and "According to the requirements," under local legislation and regulations, the Heineken Company Rules, and the Heineken Tax Control Framework.
  • Ensure OTIF and high-quality tax accounting and reporting based on maximum achievable compliance with local and Heineken tax rules and regulations applicable for OpCo in Ethiopia
  • Support the Finance team (FD, A&R Manager, BC Manager, Procurement manager, P&CI Manager) and other functional managers (e.g., supply chain, Commerce team, marketing, and brewery managers) with requested and unrequested advice and analyses re all applicable tax matters with impact on the business.
  • Coordinate/Oversee/ OpCo efforts relating to ongoing engagement with tax authorities and other relevant government bodies.
  • Ensure the development of tax and tax-related policies and review tax contracts and/or deals.
  • Lead the development of further tax know-how (awareness) on taxes applicable in the company.
  • Own full accountability for OpCo tax compliance; including holding accurate tax data records, representing a true and fair view of the company’s tax position, accurate and timely filling of tax declarations, and proactive identification of changes in legislation and implementation thereof.
  • Coach colleagues both within and outside of the department on tax matters.
  • Organize and give tax training for the finance and other staff as appropriate and keep them updated when there are new tax laws.
  • Optimize the OpCo’s cash tax and net income position, thereby reducing tax risks

Key Responsibilities

  • Functional owner of systems and/or applications partly or fully relating to taxation.
  • Prepare a year plan and budget for the development of the tax department. In line with the policy to be approved by the Finance Director, select and develop the department and its employees by preparing training and awareness sessions.
  • Lead or participate in and support national lobby activities to influence selective tax legislative updating processes.
  • Develop, localise, and implement HEINEKEN Tax Control Framework policies.
  • Update/Develop/ SOPs to improve the processes and tax compliance on an annual basis.
  • Lead and manage customs duty and import tax-related matters, including Post Clearance Audit (PCA) and appeals when required.
  • Manage import related appeals other than appeals on PCA liaising with import team, logistics and other external stakeholders.
  • Lead and/or participates in and/or supports negotiations with tax authorities and prepares (proposals for) agreements (e.g., tax rulings, tax audits). Assesses the company’s legal position, and ensures litigation, if necessary
  • Manage comprehensive tax audits by the tax authority on inland taxes.
  • Follow up comprehensive tax audits and audit assessments.
  • Lead, Support & facilitate tax appeals on inland taxes.
  • Follow up with tax appeals and give status updates to the line manager.
  • Lead and manage the disposal of obsolete items as per the requirements in the tax laws.
  • Liaise with the responsible team at factory sites, tax authorities and other government authorities such as FDA and get disposal done in compliance with applicable tax regulations and directives that brings tax benefit/deduction.
  • Lead and manage printing and usage of applicable invoices and vouchers.
  • Ensure all applicable taxes due to the city administration such as property tax and outdoor advertising taxes are paid OTIF.
  • Ensure the OpCo is compliant with local and Heineken Global tax rules and regulations by liaising with Global Transfer Pricing (TP) team and local tax authorities.
  • Review the tax figures in the internal and external reporting by the OpCo and monitor the data underlying the tax figures.
  • Review and ensure OTIF tax reporting/declarations/ as well as ongoing GL account reconciliations for assigned taxes.
  • Support team in filing annual profit tax and other supporting documents such as WHT receivables and others as required.
  • Ensure tax numbers are correctly calculated in full governance cycle (SP, AP, Actuals, ETR)
  • Detect and follow trends in legislation (e.g., national, municipal) and translate these trends into possible and/or necessary changes in company’s procedures and/or systems.
  • Coach/develop colleagues within and outside the department.
  • Ensure the ERP setup for all tax accounts is correct, reflecting the application of correct tax rates and exemptions, if any.
  • Participate in different meetings/workshops representing the OpCo & contribute inputs for tax law updates.
  • Ensure relevant certificates are secured and maintained (such as certificate from the Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia (AABE) and get OpCo audit report accredited for CIT filing with the tax authority.
  • Provide request data from Government offices OTIF and with proper governance.
  • Performs other activities as assigned by line manager

Qualification

  • University degree in Accounting / Finance
  • Minimum 5–6 years of work experience in Tax/Finance
