Job Overview

iCog, formerly known as iCog-ACC, is an Ethiopian company dedicated to democratizing access to technology through training, product development and consultancy. As an affiliate of iCog Labs, a leading research and development company with 11 plus years of experience, and strong background in AI, we are focusing on utilizing AI tools for development in the country.

iCog is a consortium partner in the Entrepreneurship in the Digital and Gig Economy (EDGE) Program, a five-year initiative (2024–2029) launched by the Mastercard Foundation in collaboration with Hybrid Designs and its consortium partners, R&D Group and QuaQua Capitals. The program is designed to advance education, promote digital inclusion, and contribute to poverty reduction in Ethiopia. Over its five-year duration, EDGE aims to create more than 300,000 employment opportunities for young women, young men and disadvantaged groups by fostering both local and offshore digital outsourcing markets. A key part of the program is the "Leyu" platform, a digital product designed to collect high-quality text and voice datasets in low-resource Ethiopian languages while providing remote work opportunities for young people, particularly women and marginalized groups.

We are looking for a Trainer to deliver high-quality training sessions, ensuring participant engagement, and managing administrative tasks related to the training program. Your role is essential in fostering a positive learning environment and achieving training objectives. You will be delivering comprehensive training sessions to trainees for the "Leyu" platform. This role involves providing training on digital literacy, soft skills, financial literacy and platform navigation. The trainer's work is critical to the program's success.

Task and Responsibilities

As a Trainer, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Attend all required orientation and Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions to understand project responsibilities, the Leyu platform, the Training Facilitation Platform (TFP), and other procedures.
  • Review and understand all training materials provided by iCog.
  • Ensure sessions begin and end on time, covering all training content fully, in accordance with the training flow document.
  • Use the Training Facilitation Platform (TFP) to manage all training activities, including recording trainee data, attendance, assessments, and surveys.
  • Before training, verify that all consent forms are signed and valid IDs are uploaded in the TFP. If any consent forms are missing, a list will be sent to the training officer for follow-up, and the consent link must be shared with trainees prior to training.
  • Check the training venue using the venue checklist to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Wear the team-provided T-shirt during training sessions.
  • On training day, follow up on any missing consent forms based on the list identified by the Trainer prior to the training date. If a trainee uploads a missing or invalid ID on the TFP during registration, ensure it is replaced with a valid and accepted one.
  • Confirm that all participants complete the baseline survey and pre-assessment forms on time, prior to the start of the training, as outlined in the training flow document.
  • Deliver engaging content and facilitate discussions, keeping in mind adult learning principles that emphasize relevancy, self-direction, and practical application.
  • Record all training sessions using Google Meet and upload them to the shared Google Drive link. A link to the meeting will be provided by the training officer.
  • In the absence of assigned photographers, the Trainer will be responsible for capturing and submitting relevant photographs and video recordings during training sessions for documentation, reporting, and social media purposes. All media must comply with safeguarding protocols, ensuring prior informed consent from all participants. When photographers are present, coordinate with them and adhere to the directions and guidelines provided by the marketing team.
  • Ensure that all participants complete the endline survey and post-assessment forms before the training concludes. Participants must fill out the assessments independently, avoiding any discussions, as these are considered exams for both pre- and post-assessment.
  • Record testimonial videos from participants who have provided consent, following the guidelines outlined in the training marketing content document.
  • Upload marketing materials to the designated drive folders immediately after the training.
  • Compile and submit post-training reports using the standardized report format provided.
  • Upload prepared reports and attendance records to the Training Facilitation Platform (TFP) by the specified deadline, respecting all deadlines.
  • Immediately report any incidents, issues, and challenges to the training officer.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the organization’s safeguarding policy, and consistently uphold safeguarding principles in all interactions.
  • Effectively manage in-person and/or online logistics, including starting and ending sessions on time and ensuring full content coverage.
  • Collect feedback from trainees and include it in the post-training report.
  • Act immediately and responsibly: report any safeguarding concerns, incidents, or allegations without delay, following the established protocols and channels.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and non-exploitative training environment for all participants, with particular sensitivity to vulnerable groups such as young people or marginalized individuals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education, Organizational Development, Instructional Design, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or any related fields.
  • Prior experience delivering training in digital literacy, financial literacy, or soft skills.
  • Ability to learn new platforms quickly.
  • Proficient in using computer software and digital platforms for training and administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to staying informed of the latest training methodologies, E-learning trends, and best practices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Afaan Oromo, Amharic, and English, depending on the city applied.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong reporting abilities.
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in organizing, conceptualizing, and prioritizing objectives.
  • Owns a personal laptop.

Payment

  • Payment will be per trainee at a rate of 20 Birr. Each training session is expected to last approximately four (4) hours, constituting a half-day session. Payment will be processed only after verifying that all required data (IDs, consent forms) are completed and that assessments and surveys are filled out properly
